Indy...many strides and improvements have been made over the years with surgery for cleft lip situation.  I am sure you have seen the "operation smile" programs where local doctors and dentist go to some 3rd world country and do surgeries on kids ranging in age from infants to 8 and 10 year olds...Your baby will receive  care from the beginning....It will be okay... This is your baby and you will love it and nurture it and the cleft lip will just be a small part of who this little person really is.  I will keep you and the Indy family in my prayers.

When I was little, I severed part of my bottom lip off when I rode my tricycle off a 3 ft retaining wall.  They fixed me up well, in 1971,  Medical has made leaps and bounds since then.

DirtyHip, doing sick ass shit since 69!

You need to get that on a jersey or something.

I wouldn't spend a lot of time researching any kind of medical stuff on the internet.  It only serves to get you upset.  Talk to your doctor or have him/her refer you to a specialist to find out the real story.

THIS!!!  Worst thing I did after being diagnosed with MS was researching on the web.

If you do....choose sites wisely.

A cleft lip is not that important. there could be millions of other things wrong that would be more troublesome then a minor lip.. plastic surgery is an option for that where others are not as fortunate!

Just so you know.. we were on a receiving list for children to adopt.. it asked if a cleft pallet or lip would be something we would consider.. I marked that box as yes without even thinking twice about it. It is something that should not effect your love for the child, nor should it bother you in the least.

Stay strong and all will be fine! That child will be loved no matter what!

I have a friend whose company donates medical equipment to operation smile, and my buddy will occasionally meet with representatives to show how to use the equipment.  Great cause!

As long as you are researching, Indy, do an image search for "before and after" pics.  That should be a hell of a lot more reassuring than just the cleft palate shots.  It looks bad until the surgery, then pretty normal shortly after.  I had to worry about all sorts of this stuff, as RW was 45 when she pooped out RB.  I was really worried about the damn conehead she had when she came out (or more correctly, when they sucked her out with a baby-vacuum), but that melded back into a normal head really quickly.

It will be ok, don't worry!

Everyone of the above is right on the money. Lots of help, support, and some really great Docs out there. BabyGirlIndy is going to grab you by the heart and twist it right around her little finger.

Then right about 16 or 17 she'll be needling you about a Mustang.
