No one fears the US any more.

Russia invades, Iran strikes, NK fires a nuclear missle. Look out Taiwan.

Erbil Iraq. Who knows if this will lead to anything.

Iran claims it was an attack on Mossad (Israel). Very little in US media.

Looks like not the US Consulate but also covered by multiple US media outlets.  It does take time for news orgs to get a story shored up before and/or even while posting it.

AP:

One Iraqi official in Baghdad initially said several missiles had hit the U.S. consulate in Irbil and that it was the target of the attack. Later, Lawk Ghafari, the head of Kurdistan’s foreign media office, said none of the missiles had struck the U.S. facility but that areas around the compound had been hit. A statement issued by the interior ministry of Iraq’s Kurdistan region said the missiles were launched from outside Iraq, from the east, without naming Iran.

The U.S. defense official said it was still uncertain exactly how many missiles were fired and exactly where they landed. A second U.S. official said there was no damage at any U.S. government facility and that there was no indication the target was the consulate building, which is new and currently unoccupied.

Neither the Iraqi official nor the U.S. officials were authorized to discuss the event with the media and spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity.

Satellite broadcast channel Kurdistan24, which is located near the U.S. consulate, went on air from their studio shortly after the attack, showing shattered glass and debris on their studio floor.

The attack came several days after Iran said it would retaliate for an Israeli strike near Damascus, Syria, that killed two members of its Revolutionary Guard. On Sunday, Iran’s state-run IRNA news agency quoted Iraqi media acknowledging the attacks in Irbil, without saying where they originated.

WSJ:

Sunday’s missile strikes injured at least two people, blasted holes in nearby homes, and sent U.S. forces rushing for cover at the American military base in Erbil. At least one missile hit within about a mile of a new U.S. consulate under construction. Erbil is the capital of the semiautonomous Kurdish region in Iraq.

U.S. officials said no American personnel were injured in the attack.

Iran claimed that it was targeting Israelis in the strike. Israel has strong relations with the Kurdish region, but Israeli officials declined to comment on reports that Sunday’s strike was aimed at Israelis working in northern Iraq.

Israel has been carrying out airstrikes against Iranian-backed militias and Iranian personnel in Syria as it seeks to prevent Iran from transferring weapons to Hezbollah, the Lebanese militia group. The campaign includes placing mines on ships carrying oil and other goods that are bound for Syria.

WaPo:

Iran claimed responsibility Sunday for a barrage of ballistic missiles that hit northern Iraq just after midnight, striking several kilometers from a U.S. compound and drawing sharp condemnation from the Iraqi and U.S. capitals.

The semiofficial Fars news agency said that Iran’s Revolutionary Guard Corps had launched “powerful missiles” in response for what it described as “recent crimes of the fake Zionist regime,” an apparent reference to the killing of two of its members last week in Syria, which it has blamed on Israel.

The attack appeared to mark a significant escalation in proxy and political conflicts on Iraqi soil as talks between Iran and the United States over the future of a 2015 nuclear deal shattered by President Donald Trump falter.

Landing at 1:30 a.m. local time, the strikes lit up the night sky and sent booms rolling through the Kurdish region’s capital, Irbil. Kurdish authorities said that they had counted 12 missiles, causing damage to buildings and cars, but no casualties.

It happened, but no one seems to care. It’s possible Iran was right and was trying to hit Israeli interests.

And now the Iranian Revolutionary Guard has claimed responsibility for the attack as a reprisal for an Israeli attack in Syria that reportedly killed 2 Guard soldiers.

Iran claims missile barrage near US consulate in Iraq | AP News

Sometimes it's difficult to tell who is leading the country in Iran.

But folks are CLEAR that "Iran just bombed US Consulate" is NOT TRUE????  Or are we still living in a post-factual world where we make an assertion, it is wrong, and then we stick to it anyway?

And Maxx, did you also choose to ignore the WaPo (specifically) and WSJ & AP (generally) links above that reported the claim?

The article specified Iran.  This article refines that claim to the Revolutionary Guard.  There is more than one Iran at times.

A country bombing another countries consulate is the very nature of politics.

But the consulate was NOT bombed and was NOT the target.

But, sure, attacks by Iran into Iraq are political.

By your new standards this precludes talk about Ukraine, oil prices, refugees and aid, closing  of companies in foreign lands, differences in medical care between the US and Canada, immigration, veganism vs meat eating and whether you are working on the left or right side of your garden.

If everything becomes political in your mind then we have little left to talk about.

How bout those Mets.

Gardening is not political talk and a war definitely is.

Just looking out for SW and trying not to give him another stroke.  This is my last post in this topic.

Is that a political statement?
