team scooter Posted March 13, 2022 Share #1 Posted March 13, 2022 Some may find this interesting. It starts today at noon. Over 1900 miles in 24 hours. One rider, averaging over 80mph for 24 hours with a mechanically stock (other than comfort accessories) Arctic Cat for charity. If there's one sled that can handle those speeds for an extended period of time, its a four cylinder turbo charged Thunder Cat. Its the exact same sled that my son has, so he keeps reminding me to watch. https://www.arcticinsider.com/ewing-ready-for-24hr-world-record-mileage-attempt/ https://www.facebook.com/1day4kids 2
smudge ★ Posted March 13, 2022 Share #2 Posted March 13, 2022 My last sled was a 2016. Things have changed a ton since then! I hope they make the record. The first couple hours may be fun, but it will be work after that.

Best that I can make out with the live feed coming and going, he has traveled over 300 miles in 3 hours and 40 minutes, including pits stops for fuel, replacing a drive belt etc. https://www.facebook.com/1day4kids/videos/3028594177454087 1
Further Posted March 13, 2022 Share #6 Posted March 13, 2022 I can't imagine the beating you take on a snowmobile @ 100MPH, and enduring for 24 hours.

Square Wheels Posted March 13, 2022 Share #8 Posted March 13, 2022 That sounds fast and scary. How do you pee (every 20 minutes)?

jsharr ★ Posted March 14, 2022 Share #12 Posted March 14, 2022 He has done at least 184 laps. I think they were 11 miles, so he has gone at least 2024 miles I believe. https://www.1day4kids.com/?fbclid=IwAR0nIqpSvkjVl9nHgcWHF7y_nue9wNUo0XIVQ_mWQJ1-c4xefmTt5gIiLFs 1
jsharr ★ Posted March 14, 2022 Share #13 Posted March 14, 2022 He has done 200 laps. Each lap is 10.52 miles to total sits around 2104. Not sure if that is final
jsharr ★ Posted March 14, 2022 Share #14 Posted March 14, 2022 Looks like 2,104 miles is the final total, which works out to an average of 87.67 miles per hour for 24 hours. Truth be told, that is about twice as fast as this ignorant Texan thought a snow mobile could go. I really thought they did 40 or 50 miles per hour max. 1

That's not taking into account the pit stops either. My guess he was holding it around 100 mph on the straights. His sled is an Arctic Cat, Thunder Cat. Cat's top of the line big boy. 200 hp turbo charged, four cylinder, four stroke motor out of the box. My son has one, the ground shakes when he pulls up. If you ever want to try to go over 2000 miles in 24 hours on a snowmobile, I guess the Thunder Cat is the way to go. Can you tell we are a die hard Arctic Cat family? 3 1

Razors Edge ★ Posted March 15, 2022 Share #19 Posted March 15, 2022 Was there an existing record or was this a new thing? I think, in the future, it can be a bit about adapting the course further to maximize efficiency. Flat, long, & straight laps would have to be key, since a straight line would surely be most optimal for a top speed and aero perspective.

I'm sure he and his crew never thought about this stuff.
