When I'm walking Jake, I won't let Jake drink from the puddles or do anymore than sniff at organic stuff on the ground: I have a collapsible rubber dog bowl I clip onto a belt loop and a 20 oz. bottle water in an insulated holder on my belt. When we reach certain benches along the route trails, we stop to get a drink. Jake knows which benches are get-a-drink benches and walks to them off the trail as we approach them. In one of the parks, a County Ranger is stationed at a checkpoint booth for cars entering the pay-only area (I have a Senior Lifetime Pass).
