That caught my eye. My '05 Ford had a full size spare with the same rim as the other 4 (so does my '15 Cheby)

If'n it's any kind of those donut or mini spares, they are mph rated to <55 or so.

"spare tire" is probably just a way to make the story more horrible (like it needed that).  I don't think any pickups have low speed rated or off sized spares.

Of course, a dad that responsible probably made sure all the tires including the spare were properly inflated.

Yes. In the configuration of the whole thing, a failed spare tire seems more directly related to the cause than a 13 yr old driver. I’m not sure an experienced, older driver would have been able to manage a front, left tire blowout at 75 mph.
