Horses for courses, Maxx!  Good for you :)

It seems that some with a bit of mechanical aptitude and fine tuning skills can actually make the new generation of Sora work pretty well.   All my other equipment fits were SRAM 9 speed mountain however.  I also have a passion for X-9 grip shifters.

My Sora 2 ring crankset was a great sale purchase of a set used at a bike show and then disposed of at a fire sale price.  Component weight is the primary thing I see from the higher groupsets.  My 8 speed SRAM chains are the old width and are virtually bulletproof.  I do not use Sora road brifters however,  I use Sora 8 speed flat bar road bike shifters and Avid brake levers coupled to Shimano disk brakes on Shimano disk road wheels.  The new generation Sora 9 speed rear derailleur is capable of handling huge cassette splits.

So, perhaps I'm not quite the all in Sora fan boy that I thought I was.
