But the given quote is the correct translation of "plus ça change, plus c'est la même chose."published as an epigram by Jean-Baptiste Alphonse Karr in the January 1849 issue of his journal Les Guêpes (“The Wasps”). Technically, he wrote, "The more it changes, the more it's the same thing" but the given quote, "The more things change, the more they are the same" captures the meaning better.
