Square Wheels Posted October 23, 2013 Share #1 Posted October 23, 2013 My computer says my car can go 21 more miles. My GPS says home is 22 miles away. Will I make it?

Randomguy Posted October 23, 2013 Share #4 Posted October 23, 2013 You should totally try, though, you need to experiment with this kind of thing.
JerrySTL ★ Posted October 23, 2013 Share #5 Posted October 23, 2013 Of course you will. However you'll be walking part of the way. I suggest walking first to get that out of the way.

Road Runner Posted October 23, 2013 Share #7 Posted October 23, 2013 You should totally try, though, you need to experiment with this kind of thing. Totally agree with this. How else will you know if that crap is accurate unless you test it.
SuzieQ Posted October 23, 2013 Share #8 Posted October 23, 2013 Hmmm, I tried something like that today. Took Nixie to Kingston to find a vintage fabric store. We had a nice time walking around the town.... then it took me 2hrs of more walking to find my car My sense of direction in the woods is great, my sense of direction in towns, malls etc is awful
jsharr ★ Posted October 23, 2013 Share #9 Posted October 23, 2013 SW, the E on the gas gauge is not for "Eh, I wonder how far I can make it before I buy gas". Just so you know.
Square Wheels Posted October 23, 2013 Author Share #10 Posted October 23, 2013 I'm counting on the really smart engineers at Toyota to have built in a reserve. Otherwise I'm walking.

Square Wheels Posted October 24, 2013 Author Share #17 Posted October 24, 2013 My GPS lied at the beginning. The ride was 32 miles, I drove for about 10 - 12 miles with it telling me I had 0 miles left in the tank. As for the Red Sox, I'm off to bed now. Sorry, just can't stay up that late for baseball. Road Runner Posted October 24, 2013 Share #19 Posted October 24, 2013 I used to have a motorcycle that had a reserve tank. If you ran out on the main tank, you could switch to a small reserve tank that would get you another 20 miles or so. I always thought that would be a nice feature to have on cars, a small reserve tank that would get you to the next gas station.
Square Wheels Posted October 24, 2013 Author Share #20 Posted October 24, 2013 This car is a hybrid. Why can't I drive on just battery for 10 or so miles? Seems stupid to me.

The reserve tank was always nice except when you forgot to switch back to the main. When you ran out then, you were completely out.
