Merck is also a major supplier of laboratory chemicals and I've known that brand since my teens. It was originally a German company and does business today outside the USA as Merck, Sharp, and Dohme. When I was in grad. school at IIT, its insurance company complained about chemicals that had been in cabinets and lockers for decades. Since we scholarship grad students were already certified chemists, we were assigned the job of getting rid of the stuff. I wished I had saved some of the old, classic, chemical bottles.
