At 1:3.5, I wonder if they could just make a full size one and hook up some RC bits to set the record higher?  Like, what makes 1:3.5 doable, but not 1:2 or 1:1?  @maddmaxx??

cost is probably not linear. Scaling the 1/3 model up 3x may have a 10x cost factor.

@Razors Edge I'm curious what these large models cost, I'm assuming an estimate of 50k for the helicopter above. I have no idea. After some searching, this 1/3 jet says 35k. May or may not be accurate, but either way it is a lot of money. Heck, that's what my Malibu cost...and I can drive it

Power.  Volume and weight go up by a non linear factor (probably cubed) till you need to contact P&W aircraft to find out how much a 1/1 turbine engine is going to cost.  Unlike aircraft, helicopters cannot support a good part of their weight on wings.
