View the full article There have been lots of quotes and examples of sticking to something even when it seems like it's not working. Then we hear about the success stories. But we never hear about how many stuck with it and ended impoverished because of poor planning, poor execution, or just bad luck. A lot of us that attended my high school came from poor families and knew of example after example where a father had a vehicle repair garage than never made enough to make ends meet without living like a peasant but he kept it going until he retired, etc. After growing up in families with shaky financial situations, I think that's why a large percentage of the few of us who went to collage went into teaching or nursing: it paid better-than-avg. in Maryland, was the profession of the most successful people we knew, it was a job where people didn't get laid off and, if they did their job, didn't have to worry about getting fired.
