petitepedal ★ Posted July 2, 2022 Share #1 Posted July 2, 2022 So..I live in a first tier suburb now...but I grew up in a small town..July 4..we h a parade at 9am on the 4th followed by various games/races that started on one end of the "main street" and worked its way to the other..then about 3pm the band did a concert 10 pm fireworks.. All of that changed over the years..but that was basic.. They added a parade on the 3rd..bigger more prizes.. Oh the city dance.. And the vehicle that went through town announcing it all..on a tacky sound system all day long... 3
Popular Post petitepedal ★ Posted July 2, 2022 Author Popular Post Share #2 Posted July 2, 2022 This is the July 4th I remember.. We won 1st prize...in the parade the year my mom spent .25cents on a roll of aluminum foil an she cut out clock numbers..the next year she used chicken wire and plaster o Paris? To create a snowman..took prizes at 2 parades..had to wear a life jacket to keep the shoulders ok...then my cousins moved "home" we did floats...a snoopy theme one year..a dinosaur one year and a clipper ship another year...between my mom and my cousin making a float 3 to 4 times larger than the trailer that was pulling it. The dinosaur, had eyes that glowed red(brake lights) and via a hose and fire extinguisher blew smoke... What fun times...in between an AM and PM parade (in 2 small towns) we bbq'd lots of food. 2

sheep_herder ★ Posted July 2, 2022 Share #4 Posted July 2, 2022 Yep, don't forget there will be a parade on the web cam Monday morning and then a gathering at the park. One of the fellows that died earlier this year was the head fireworks guy, but they will carry on without him.

Scrapr ★ Posted July 2, 2022 Share #6 Posted July 2, 2022 The neighborhood is having a parade. There seems to be about 7000 in Mayberry. The parade will circle a park about 1 block x 2 blocks long. Ice cream at the park, live music, balloon animals & food truck.

Longjohn ★ Posted July 2, 2022 Share #8 Posted July 2, 2022 One day on GOBA we had a morning rest stop in a small town at their general store. The only store of any kind in the town. I expected Ike Godsey to wait on me. I laughed when I rode into town and saw the street sign. The store was on Main Street. I don’t think there were any other streets. They could have done a brisk business if they sold coffee and donuts. The only stuff they had was things with a long shelf life like Hostess. They probably did ok selling Gatorade and stuff but missed an opportunity to make a killing selling donuts and coffee. Some coffee guy followed us from town to town and sold coffee in the morning a small foam cup for $3.00. He must have thought he was Starbucks.
