Popular Post smudge ★ Posted July 28, 2022 Popular Post Share #1 Posted July 28, 2022 I've had a few opportunities to scavenge some downed trees this summer, and we've hauled it to camp. HoSmudge has had quite a bit of wood splitting to do. The past couple nights after work I've driven the trucks to a tree the city took down yesterday. I got a good workout each night loading up some nice big chunks and a few smaller pieces. Tonight HoSmudge said he's going to need a new wood shed! I told him I still want to build a simple lean-to/roof on stilts to keep the wood covered and dry. It will be nice for him to have something other than pine to burn at camp. And I'm enjoying lifting heavy things after a day at work sitting in front of a computer. 8

Further Posted July 28, 2022 Share #5 Posted July 28, 2022 The first step is about 40 yards of concrete, painstakingly formed and poured....

Frustrating how it always looks so much more impressive in person when the sweat is running into your eyes... groupw Posted July 28, 2022 Share #8 Posted July 28, 2022 Last weekend we picked up some wood from a mesquite tree with a fallen branch. It was precut and about half a pickup load. I didn’t say anything because he was nice enough to cut it, but it was obvious they never had a wood stove. Cuts ranged from 8” to 2 feet! 1

Parsnip Totin Jack ★ Posted July 28, 2022 Share #12 Posted July 28, 2022 I have oak in the backyard. Don’t have to drive anywhere but it’s still got to be cut and split. 2

People around here don't burn pine indoors because maple, oak and ash are readily available. But I know that some people do burn pine indoors where that is the more plentiful wood. Life is all about taking advantage of the plentiful wood. 1
