Popular Post BR46 Posted August 6, 2022 Popular Post Share #1 Posted August 6, 2022 We were planning on going to Das Fest but we went hiking at Devils Lake this morning instead. After hiking we stopped at Tumbled Rock where we shared a flight of beer. Then we traveled 3 miles north to Driftless Glen distillery where we decided to share another flight of bourbon. 8 2

BuffJim Posted August 6, 2022 Share #3 Posted August 6, 2022 My change of plans involves going birdwatching the Ornithological Society. Meeting at a swamp in 88 degree weather for a 2 hour birdwatching tour. What could go wrong. I do have bug spray. 2

I think the Black Flies are mostly May and June. With the drought there are fewer mosquitoes.

BuffJim Posted August 7, 2022 Share #12 Posted August 7, 2022 Same here. Surprisingly few bugs. Tons of birds, which you can’t see with this camera.

MickinMD ★ Posted August 7, 2022 Share #14 Posted August 7, 2022 Devils Lake was the one big trip, two-days, that about 10 of us grad students plus spouses, etc. did together when I was at IIT in the Summer of 1974. We collected two big tents, one for the guys and one for the women, and the guy's tent had screen sides so we were freezing due to a late night rain, but we were all in our 20's and managed to sleep through it. Being mostly poor grad students, we stopped in Madison to load up on bread, lunch meat, and other food and drink, then we spent most of the time climbing the rocks around the side of the lake and exploring the woods around it.
