Road Runner Posted August 11, 2022 Share #1 Posted August 11, 2022 Someone might get hurt. Virginia State Police. Driver caught going 152 mph on I-64 in Norfolk NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — The Virginia State Police are reminding motorists to slow down after one driver was caught going nearly triple the speed limit on I-64 in Norfolk over the weekend. According to a social media post from state police, a trooper cited a driver in Norfolk for going 152 mph in a posted 55 mph on I-64. State police say traffic crashes across Virginia have claimed 515 lives since January. Excessive speed has been the common cause of the fatal crashes, officials say. Popular Post Razors Edge ★ Posted August 11, 2022 Popular Post Share #2 Posted August 11, 2022 I draw the line at 150. In fact, I set it and forget it, the way true road warriors do. I hate when I'm cruising happily along at 150 in the center lane, and some yo-yo flies past me at like 152(!), but then gets in my lane and proceeds to drop to 140 or so! WTF?!?!? Don't pass me and then slow down. So damn rude. Some folks suck at driving.

Road Runner Posted August 11, 2022 Author Share #5 Posted August 11, 2022 It seems like the police here will allow you to go 80 mph above the posted limit, but 97 above will get you a ticket (maybe). 1
maddmaxx ★ Posted August 11, 2022 Share #6 Posted August 11, 2022 Times have changed. When I lived there the VA Beach police and I conspired to make a 150+ mph run on the VA Beach expressway one night in the Daytona. No other cars or traffic were involved as that section of the highway was unofficially closed for a few minutes in the wee hours of the morning. There was no traffic anyway, but preparations included a police car on the only on ramp in my path. We were all gearheads back then. The state police however had no sense of humor whatsoever. 1
BuffJim Posted August 11, 2022 Share #7 Posted August 11, 2022 I drove that stretch last year. Madness.

So true. It is so much more challenging (and skillful) to drive 150 these days. Used to be point and shoot, but now it's a lot of bob and weave. 1
Road Runner Posted August 11, 2022 Author Share #10 Posted August 11, 2022 At first, I thought driving 152 would be a bit scary in a standard type vehicle. But then I remembered as a young idiot going over 120 in my 68 Road Runner on a country road. I guess 152 on a smooth, wide, interstate highway wouldn't be so bad. 1
BR46 Posted August 11, 2022 Share #11 Posted August 11, 2022 I have 150ish on a motorcycle on the race track...I can't be positive because we don't have speedometer. I know that I have done 130mph on a motorcycle on the interstate.
ChrisL Posted August 11, 2022 Share #12 Posted August 11, 2022 100+ is crazy fast on the freeway. I have gone in excess of 120, at times on the shoulder and it was freaking scary fast. Too fast really and we backed off the pursuit. We got the a hole anyway.

We were running code but still had to weave through cars, that’s why we backed off. The guy dumped his bike anyway but we got him. The helo picked him up with FLIR, hiding in bushes 3’ from me! 1

For many cars it is a bit weird and even dangerous. Often the only warning you get is a strange feeling that the nose of the car is beginning to move around in a sort of circular pattern. You would be approaching Vlof
KrAzY Posted August 11, 2022 Share #17 Posted August 11, 2022 so 152mph is bad... can I still do 120mph on my Ducati while traveling the toll roads? I'm just keeping up with traffic really. 1

I was out on a two lane road with nothing but forest on each side. No place for a police car to hide for a couple miles. Lots of guys went there late at night to either drag race or just to go fast. I had a muscle car and felt it was expected of me to run it up to near top end, at least once. The trees on either side flying by at 120 mph was a big reminder of how fast I was going. My 2016 Prius can maybe get to 110. My 2010 Subaru Forester possibly 116. Not going to even try to get over 100 in either. WoBG's 97 Honda Prelude 140 is its limit. Years ago... she has driven to places and she must have been over 100 for most of the trip, based on the time it took her to get there. I have Michelin PILOT® SPORT A/S 3 tires on her car. I keep them inflated 2 psi more to keep the speed rating at 130. 7 1/2 psi above normal the tires are good for 160. The first time she drove the car with these tires she told me, "The car drives like it is rails." That tells me she doesn't slow down much for curves. I asked her abut that once... her response. "Those yellow diamond speed waring for curves... I just double that speed and I know it will be OK." 1 2 1
