Closed on Sunday :( would get me every time!

What were you favorite spots in Spain to peruse the local living?

Never been. I have a friend living there now who has invited me to visit. Another friend just bought a house in Granada. I plan to crash his place. GF loves it and says we're going. I'm not sure if that is before or after the via ferrata trip in the Dolomites or bikepacking in Scotland or Slovenia. She has a long list.

I think a trip to Scotland is worth your time.  I want to go back.  Got married once in Czech Republic first time around and while it's not the same thing -- Slovenia is close!  Heh.  As for the Sodomites -- I'd start with @Razors Edge to show you the ropes.

You made a funny! But they're cables, not ropes!

But, yeah, the Dolomites are spectacular. As is Slovenia. As is ... well, tons of places! And if they have a Costco? BONUS ROUND!

I can't imagine being on vacation in Spain and thinking let's go to Costco. Hopefully, they have Chick Fil-A so you can find a suitable place to eat.

He is shit out of luck, unless Spain moves to Canada or Puerto Rico.

I recommend whenever in a new European city/town/area, to see if there is a local market nearby during the time your there. It's a more convenient way to see local products under 1 roof.  Doesn't matter if it's sometimes, yuppiefied, the point is local cooking from stalls, products or fuller range of products rarely seen in North America because of their local niche market.

Boqueria Market in Barcelona was convenient for us since it was downtown, where I was a a little surprised by the range of their Spanish hams and local "proscuitto".  I don't know much about Spanish cuisine.  Several offered an incredible range of saffron thread types.

So if one lacks time seeking out individual specialty food places, the local market is a good place to start....along with cultural feel.  And no,I was not interested in pre-cut ham/cheese: those pieces would have dried out abit in taste.

Reminds me of the time we took the family & my MIL to Hawaii.  MIL insisted on eating at Dennys, IHOP & any generic American style restaurant she could find.  I finally told my wife I’m not going to Denny’s or IHOP.  If you want to go there fine take your mom I’ll take the kids somewhere else.

We hit up the street vendors & local places and MIL ate Micky D’s & turned her nose up to the local food.

I don't like the reverse either, tourists from mainland China who insist on eating Chinese cuisine when vacationing in North America.  I have no problem if they are elderly and have digestion, certain health problems.

Hell, we're getting our 88 yr.old mother to eat yogurt daily now...solve constipation problems much better.  That is a big step for her...considering she wanted to barf when she immigrated to Canada and thought dairy eating people smelled sour to her.
