Thanks, I will.  I plan to bring my pillow in my car and nap when needed.

Nap and take some time to get out and STRETCH.  Man, a 10 hr drive will tighten you up quite a bit, and even just a 10 min wander around a rest area or parking lot getting gas can be a great reset.

Are you taking the bikes with you or trusting the movers? :frantics:

I wish

20+ hours.

From current house to hotel we're staying in until closing.

I once drove 21 hours straight from The Paris of Ohio to Boulder.  I do not recommend this.

I was going to nap on the drive and probably stop for a longer couple of hours nap and then push on after, but I just didn't get exhausted enough to stop for more than a few minutes to get gas or eat.  I did get really out of it the last 45 minutes, but by then I just had to push through.  I did fall asleep for about 5 minutes at a rest stop, though.

Anyway, it will be a fun drive, maybe a little bit.  Is there a big ball of twine or a mystery spot to stop at?

@Square Wheels, you will literally pass  right by my home. I’m 2 miles off 81. Just throwing this out there, if you need a break on the trip, our home is open.

Have a safe trip and I pray the chapter of your like that lies before you brings you much joy and new adventure!

Peace.

Thank you, but I fear we'd have too much fun getting to know each other and I'd miss our closing on Friday.  :)

Yes it does.

How?  It is all in christo-syntax and doesn't make linguistic sense.

"Peace be with you" is a strange utterance, as most religious utterances are, but at least it is correct in context.  "Here is where you say a holy-esque thing that is only a little brainwashy in the number of times you are supposed to say stuff like this, and then respond in a ritualized way".   "Peace be the move" is just a weird sentence, and I normally like weird, but again, what does that actually mean?

"I hope you don't crash" or "I hope you have a bangin' drive and don't have to pull over to poop too often" would be ok to say, too, and actually better from a construct angle.

Anyway, I a sure RS agrees, technically.  She would also be correct in that we all do know what she meant, no matter how freaky the sentence is.  Peace be the response, and peace be the next time you visit the crapper.

This just might be true. They are an awesome couple and I’m sure you would enjoy the visit if you had the time. You have a lot going on in your life right now.

The expression, “peace be your drive” is linguistically correct. It clearly expresses the stated wishes that the drive from MA to TN be without negativity or calamity. That @Square Wheels’s journey flows smoothly without mechanical or physical events that would impair any enjoyment he might experience on the drive. The phrase also conveys a wish for mental and spiritual peace where worry and anxiety have no place but in the rubbish cans at the fuel refilling stations and the rest stops along the route. Once again you are WRONG. Stir the pot, lick the spoon Dude.

@Randomguy likes this verbose version.

May the move manifest peace.

I like it!  Like, he might achieve some Zen state of being as the miles unfold ahead of him. A trance-like feeling, where he is at one with the road - every twist & turn effortlessly navigated.  Heck, yeah! Safe and refreshing.

@Randomguymay have missed something so I wanted to cover all the bases. TLDR: you’re WRONG.

Seemingly, "Peaceful be the move" seems a bit more accurate and pleasing to the ear.  Or, broader, "May you find peace in the move." <- whether that is the physical move from MA to TN or the longer term new home in TN.

I think it's more just RG thinking, "That sounds weird. Is that really how we talk?"

is my last night in this house.  My wife has been gone since Saturday morning, tomorrow, the movers come, and I hit the road.

Both closings are on Friday morning.  Our lawyer up here is managing this one, we need to be at the TN closing.

I'm there's lots of emotions as you walk though the house.  The same was true with my first house, which had been a fixer-upper where I had sanded and epoxied the hardwood floor and returned it to new condition, replaced all the doors, etc. etc.

Back then, I was retiring and downsizing to my childhood home, having no idea a fire would occur which would transform the value of the childhood home to more than the house I left!

This.

If you said "Peace be the move" to someone from another culture, they would scratch their heads and think "Wtf is this supposed to mean" in whatever way they think, presumably in a grammatically-aligned manner consistent with their language and culture.   Move is peace?  Wut?

The way RS said it was fairly fruitatious in a religo-hippie-esque manner that implies we are all of a judeo-christian bent, and are happy to further this complicit acceptance of Christianity as the linguistic mortar of society, and by implication, our fascination with that particular branch of voodoo.

Still though, that sentence makes no sense.

WRONG!  It may express it through implication, and it was perfectly understood.  Since understanding is everything in communication, it works for most of us, but the sentence itself is structurally unsound.  Maybe it just sounds wonky, because it is.

He has so many moments that aren't about me, and I find this problematic.  For instance, on this drive, he will hardly think about me at all.  Sure, he usually tells me on his drives "Hey RG, I was thinking about you constantly on my way to the store today."  It is a little weird sometimes, but it is nice to know.

We signed papers for our old house on Wednesday, packed and moved out on Thursday. WoW got Covid as we were packing. Our 2 day drive became 3 so she could get more rest. Got our AirBnB house and stayed there until Thursday. Old owner of new house dragged his feet getting out. We were originally supposed to close on Wednesday. We were in a parking lot Friday morning after checking out of the AirBnB (we couldn’t extend because of a prior reservation) with our vehicles waiting for our realtor to say we were clear to take possession. We had to wait an hour at the new house for his realtor to open the lockbox for our keys! Our realtor was so close to legal action!
Im sure yours will go much better. Enjoy the adventure!

...I must have done that part of the drive, up through the Cumberland Gap and the entire length of Virginia, a dozen times, visiting my mom outside D.C. , when I lived in East TN.  I would offer you some recommendations about swell local eateries along the way in southern Virginia, but I never found any. :)  Once you get down past the Mason Dixon line,  try to remember that a guy in a BMW convertible, with Mass plates, is a cop magnet. They look on you as a renewable resource for local funding.  I hope you have the willpower to set your cruise control at or below the speed limit.

The only reason you should be driving faster than the posted speed limits is when and if you hear banjo music. Blessings and Vaya con Dios.

I hear of others who were told 7 to 12 days and it took over a month.

I hope that doesn't happen.

Minimalism is FREEDOM, @Square Wheels!  With just the bare essentials in the new place, you'll realize that just having your bikes and each other is more than enough!
