Trigger warning

I just showed my son how to field strip the AR and looks like we are heading back to the range on Friday.
All degreased, cleaned and lubed. Many this time I will not need to morter the Stock to unlodge a stuck round.

i love how easy you can field strip this one. Just takes one bullet to pop two pins

I do not understand that last sentence.

My Taurus pistol hates reloads, but runs fine on every brand of boxed ammo I have fed it.

My S&W .22 pistol is very selective on what ammo it will run.  It really likes CSC and Aguila.

Both of my .22 rifles will fire just about anything, esp. the bolt action.

I do not own any ARs.

Are you trying to figure out mortaring? It’s when you slam the stock of the gun onto a table of bench to jar the bullet from the chamber. Sort of like dropping a mortar into a pipe.

Not ideal but I have had to mortar an M 16 on occasion.  Funny but we just said “slam it” we didn’t use that term.    We also had an acronym called SPORTS.  Anyone care to guess what it stood for?

I wonder if I can still remember how to field strip an M 16/M4.  It’s been 30+ years since I have fired one.

Yeah no… 😂

The M16 was maligned at first in Vietnam but it was fielded with some misconceptions.   One was that it didn’t need to be cleaned often… By my time the bugs were worked out and it was a reliable weapon.

I’m not sure where I first heard mortaring as a word.. I was young when I heard it. Might have been from my day when he didn’t do anything in Vietnam 😂

so what does sport stand for?

SPORTS is an acronym to remind you of steps to take to clear a weapons malfunction. It stands for Slap, Pull, Observe, Release, Tap and Shoot.

I used the googles.

He had to use an AR for our rifle instructor training.  Inspect gun to make sure chamber and mag well clear.  Pull back charging handle and lock in place.  Load rounds into mag.  Insert mag into mag well, Release charging lever to chamber a round.  Remove magazine.  Use charging handle to extract round from chamber.  Close charging handle.  Remove unused rounds from magazine.   Funny that were there to become BSA rifle instructors.  The most common gun we shoot is a single shot, bolt action .22 rfile.  But the NRA brings an AR to use as a demonstrator for safe gun handling.

And if you call a gun a weapon in an NRA class, the instructor makes you wear a big red W around your neck.

Pretty stupid to haze people in an organization that promises not to haze people.

I refuse to go to a rang just down the road from me because they are fast to yell at someone learning. I would rather have a range master stop me for something unsafe if they observe and correct, but this place just had it in for us that day.
this guy wants you to lift, load, and chamber a round while only pointing the gun in the direction of down range. That fine and all, and those are good rules I always learnt, but he means never Loft a gun or chamber the round if it is not pointing directly at your target. The barrel must always be 90 degrees down range, not 85 or 87, only 90! WTF can seriously do that, that dude is a total tool on a power trip.

also I did t wanna use google. But I’m all for SHOT (Slam Hard On Table)

I bet their hazing was nothing compared to what happened to us for calling our weapon a gun…

We were pretty disciplined on not lofting during reload at outdoor ranges as an accidental discharge could sail over the wall.

I had a funny recollection from the police academy.  We had this dude named McHenry who was always fucking up at the range.  The range master used a bull horn, shooters ready left, ready right…. Stand by….  McHenry PULL YOUR HEAD OUT OF YOUR ASS!!!!!

Faaahk McHenry screwed up again…
