maddmaxx ★ Posted September 21, 2022 Share #1 Posted September 21, 2022 $470. The muffler is 239 alone. The Cube is 13+ years old but the milage is still in the 80K range. It's on it's second transmission and this is not the first exhaust system repair. Womaxx will never give it up. Sigh. At the current price for a replacement she's probably right. This is no longer a general purpose family vehicle but is womaxx's personal transport. Too many short trips kill exhaust systems. Nissan is still having transmission problems with it's smaller CVT equipped cars. I think if I were to ever buy a new car that Nissan joins the list with Kia and Jeep on the do not buy list. 2
Tizeye Posted September 21, 2022 Share #2 Posted September 21, 2022 Would have been a lot cheaper to run over a street sign, salvage the aluminum straight pipe and put a glasspack on. Even better with the size of the Cube, get a second glasspac and cut the pipe in half for a tuned dually. You will have the bades Cube around and would cost you next to nothing. (Actually, my college roommate did that with his 55 Chevy, but did have to flip the glasspac around for pipe fit.)
groupw Posted September 22, 2022 Share #3 Posted September 22, 2022 Nissan makes wonderful engines and I like the styling of the current Altima and Maxima lines, but CVTs and rust seem to plague them. Their road manners fell far short of a comparable Mazda. Granted Womaxx probably doesn’t drive in the manner I do. The Cube is an acquired taste.

Nissan really took a dive from a quality stand point when Renault bought them. I have heard much of the same. It seems the only good Nissans have the 3.5 V6 with a non CVT transmission.
Ralphie ★ Posted September 22, 2022 Share #6 Posted September 22, 2022 Is the exhaust stainless?

Eventually, even welding the pipes back together without flanges wears out. This Cube is 13 years old and hasn't been made in 10 years. Road salt and short trips are death to exhaust systems. My muffler is being trucked in from somewhere in RI where an auto parts store had one in stock.

Fortunately it was under warranty so the replacement cost him nothing. The dealership told him it was a $12,000 repair.

The belt that connects the pulleys is made of millions of pieces.

I keep hearing about engine problems with Kia that we have yet to experience and we are on our third one in twenty years. we had the last one for eleven years and outside of regular maintenance and a couple of brake jobs, the only repair I ever needed was one front wheel bearing. exhaust system, starter, alternator, cooling system all were original when we dealt it. Heck, we never even had to charge the AC in all that time.
