who caught cycling bug, even if mildly in your family?

1. I regret, I just wasn't properly prepared to cycle with 15-yr. old niece in Toronto during the time I was there. They brought out my bike that I donated to them and even pumped the tires.  She asked me if wanted to join her.

She has been cycling from home, this summer to her rowing classes by Lake Ontario in Toronto. She goes herself ...only has to cross a busy major road, to get over to bike path. She rides to her high school this fall. Probably will stop in winter. There are protected bike lanes in parts of her neighbourhood.

2. Sister I stayed with, went out for fitness bike ride twice on her own. While I slept/ate breakfast. Yea, I know.   She also jogs for fitness. Latter activity she tends to do for past few decades except for a back injury.

I have no clue about other family members. I know adult nephews and niece, do at one/several of the following:  rock climbing, weight-training, hiking/walking a ton and competitive frisbee.  There might be cycling but not as a lifestyle choice like self.  One of them worked as a bike mechanic for a summer.

Several nephews and niece have been on charity bike rides over 50 km. long during their teen years.  Of course, their parents would have led them during the big ride.

Neither of my kids really enjoy cycling as exercise but do enjoy a casual cruise at the beach.

My wife actually got the riding bug early on (before kids). She took a break when our kids were young but we started arranging sitters so we could ride when our son was about 4 and she has been riding ever since (20 years now). She’s a die hard roadie.

My sister Sue cycles, but just for triathlon stuff. I’ve ridden with her before but found it annoying as she rode with earbuds and listened to music on our rides. I’d say something like, we’re going to turn left and climb some. Be ready to shift down. What? And I’d have to repeat myself. Every time. She may wonder why I don’t ride with her anymore.

Youngest son cycled with me for a few years when I came back to cycling and we worked together.  He doesn't anymore.  He collapsed his lungs twice and he just doesn't have the drive.  If he does return he won't like riding at my smell the roses speed.  He's a set phaser on kill sort of rider.  When he was still riding he dragged me to my fastest rides ever.  I built and maintained his bike.  He was just a rider.

My FiL picked up cycling and we’d ride together sometimes. His brother made some crack about how his grandkids didn’t want to ride with him because “he was too fast.” (eye roll) I didn’t want to ride with him because he ran red lights and wanted to stop along the way to drink a Diet Coke instead of just carrying water bottles.

Both my kids like to ride. First child on a road bike and second child on the tandem with mr. He doesn’t like it when I captain the tandem. “That’s dad’s job.”’

My son got me to up my game 15 years ago. That got oldest daughter and WoW into it. Son moved to Lincoln shortly after. Eldest daughter got strong before she moved after a couple years. WoW really got more into it than I expected. She would do casual rides with our group and take her road bike out by herself in the country.
After daughter got cancer, she set it aside. The chemo has messed with her joints to where east rides can be uncomfortable. WoW tends to fixate and lost all desire to ride when daughter got sick. She keeps re-injuring a knee just enough that riding isn’t comfortable most days and the heat hasn’t helped. Now that it’s starting to cool, she is saying she wants to take her bike out. She hiked a little at South Mountain while I rode so that is promising!

Son still rides. A lot is work commuting, but he rides some gravel and trails as well.
Youngest daughter works in the cycle/kayak/climbing part of REI. She just got full time with benefits! She’s hoping to get a MTB very soon.
My brother bought a Trek trail bike and is enjoying the backroads in the Black Hills where he lives, now. We had a great time on our ride and it opened his eyes to new riding options. His wife and WoW were talking seriously about e-bikes. Hoping we can get WoW one after a couple other projects.
