donkpow Posted November 5, 2022 Share #1 Posted November 5, 2022 I rebuilt a set of automotive brake calipers, today. They'll be on the shelf until I swap them out into the car. I used "Red Rubber Grease", a vegetable oil lubricant with a bentonite thickener, and you should, too. https://www.redrubbergrease.com/
Further Posted November 5, 2022 Share #2 Posted November 5, 2022 Is it a high heat grease? Why should we use it?
Rattlecan ★ Posted November 5, 2022 Share #3 Posted November 5, 2022 Interesting. I knew that petroleum based grease is not good for rubber O rings and seals. Looks like it may also be a good alternative to Sram’s special hydraulic brake fitting grease.

Since it is not a petroleum based product, it will not degrade rubber parts. It is compatible with most hydraulic systems and fluids. I coated the inside of the calipers and all the internal parts with the grease to prevent rust. Of course I used it as an assembly lube and rubber preservative on the seals and boots. 1
JerrySTL ★ Posted November 5, 2022 Share #5 Posted November 5, 2022 Maybe you can use it on a Red Rubber Ball.
