Road Runner Posted December 17, 2014 Share #1 Posted December 17, 2014 I used to, especially back when anti-freeze was only considered good for one or two years. When they came out with the longer change stuff, I got out of the habit and never do it anymore. Am I going to automotive hell for this? What do you do about your engine coolant/anti-freeze? jsharr ★ Posted December 17, 2014 Share #2 Posted December 17, 2014 I just park on a bridge and drain mine into a creek and then refill it with whatever Wally World has on sale.
2Far ★ Posted December 17, 2014 Share #3 Posted December 17, 2014 Broke a little y-tube on 7/2013. Puked most of the coolant out. Refilled the system then with a 50/50 mixture. Oughta be good until the next time the y-tube breaks.
bikeman564™ Posted December 17, 2014 Share #4 Posted December 17, 2014 I haven't flushed mine yet and it's 7 yrs old. Should I?
team scooter Posted December 17, 2014 Share #5 Posted December 17, 2014 They say the fluid gets acidic after a while and needs to be changed every 100,000 miles or so. Recently I asked my son how many miles were on our old Corolla, and asked if he had checked the antifreeze before it got cold. He said it should be fine since I changed it just before we gave it to him three years ago. I told him I changed the oil, not the radiator fluid. The original antifreeze is ten years old and has almost 300,000 miles on it. Interestingly, its still good down to 20 below.

Pokey Posted December 17, 2014 Share #9 Posted December 17, 2014 Gas Piggy truck gets flush and fill every 60K or so. I know that it's supposed to last 100K, but I don't trust the car part/rebuild consortium.
JerrySTL ★ Posted December 18, 2014 Share #10 Posted December 18, 2014 I do a drain and fill about every 5 years. I wouldn't really call it a flush as I don't use water under pressure to drain it out. GM's Dex-Cool can turn into a jello-like substance under some conditions like air bubbles getting into the system.
