ChrisL Posted January 1 Share #4 Posted January 1 Found it… 5.4 magnitude up in NorCal. A good shake but shouldn’t be much of a problem for us.

Dirtyhip Posted January 2 Share #8 Posted January 2 Eureka is a bit south of me. I heard it was minor. There was one a year or so before we moved here that destroyed our old courthouse. The new one is nice. I am thankful for minor earthquakes.

It is interesting that a minor one can feel devastating if you sit on the epicenter. I was once in a clothing store when an earthquake hit. I went to stand in a doorway that led to a shoe storage area and the shoe shelves collapsed. So I started to back away but the plate glass windows maybe 10’ away were rolling like water so I figured falling shelves & boxes was better than glass shrapnel so I stayed put. Come to find out it was only like a 4.2 but I was literally on the epicenter. Many businesses were damaged in the immediate area too. 1
