Ralphie ★ Posted January 2 Share #1 Posted January 2 And for extra potatoe pointes, is anyone here old enough to remember seeing Fibber McGee’s closet? Or was that on radio? I only have second-hand awareness of it. But I have seen several cartoons where opening a closet is met by an avalanche of stuff. 2

I think that was a thing on Ma and Pa Kettle too. I remember hearing that on the old Fibber Magee radio program.

I was reading recently where the reason Dick van Dyke never appeared on the MTM show was that the show feared restarting the Rob and Laura Petrie thing in the minds of viewers. And Dick said he would have definitely wanted to date MTM if they were not both happily married. Of course he would have! 2
groupw Posted January 2 Share #9 Posted January 2 My closets? No. Wow doesn’t like to take the time to reorganize things as long as it fits. I get it. Sometimes you’re in a hurry. But when there is down time it would be a good idea to re- do them. I often open the pantry door carefully in case it’s booby trapped! 1

maddmaxx ★ Posted January 2 Share #12 Posted January 2 It's been a few decades since I had a closet collapse. The house I rented in VA beach had no built in closets and I had a cheap cardboard structure that the humidity finally got to.
Ralphie ★ Posted January 2 Author Share #13 Posted January 2 Our pantry is the current major offender. It is also good for holding items well past their expiration dates, which incidentally are mostly bullshit according to me and some recent articles I have read.

ChrisL Posted January 2 Share #15 Posted January 2 WOChrisL’s has a closet 2X larger than mine so I get the dresser. She keeps tshirts up on the shelf in her closet and often times has an avalanche but that’s mainly because she’s looking for one particular shirt that has others on top of it and pulls them all down. When we moved into the new house, we have a decent walk in closet. I told WoW to take what she needs and I would take the rest. I had enough room that I hang my t-shirts as well!

With our remodel we really rethought our storage situation & got a bed with under bed storage & a bedside table with storage. So no WOChrisL doesn’t have a dresser but does have other places to store items.

Mary was at her height of attractiveness and feminine femininity during the Van Dyke show. Monica, the neat-freak on Friends, wouldn't let husband Chandler open a certain closet door. When he finally did, an avalanche of non-neat stuff fell out. I have closets packed with stuff, but have such little closet space they've got to be neat so they can be efficiently stuffed.

The fact she still looked great very late in life make me blame clothes and hair of that point in time.

We bought a 6-drawer dresser for the bedroom. With the closet that is plenty. There is an under bed storage system we may consider when we upgrade to a king size bed. That size was not an option in our old house, but there is plenty of room now.

Saying nope results in fewer impulse buys, more discarded ephemera, and tidy closets that are safe to open.
