Kirby ★ Posted January 6 Share #2 Posted January 6 I got lemon scented Vicks Vapo Rub last winter. I used it a little under my nose when I had a cold. MomKirby swore by Vicks.
shootingstar Posted January 6 Share #3 Posted January 6 Have never used it. I don't recall its use in my own family....of 6 children. And for sure, there were prolonged, lousy colds, etc. When I get bad colds/flu, it's usually decongestant -cough suppression syrup that helps reduce my misery from too much cough-hacking. I even find taking too much syrup scary ...since certain syrups are way too powerful for me. And liquid, lots of rest to help me.
ChrisL Posted January 6 Share #4 Posted January 6 I haven’t since I was a kid, I hate the sensation of the stuff in my chest. My wife still uses it though.

MoseySusan ★ Posted January 6 Share #6 Posted January 6 Last week, but not on purpose. I grabbed the tube of Vick’s vapor cream instead of the tube of Gold Bond foot cream and slathered my heel in aromatic therapy. I do like eucalyptus for calming, though, so it wasn’t a thing. 1
JerrySTL ★ Posted January 6 Share #7 Posted January 6 Not lately, however, I do use Vicks VapoRub nasal spray. Smells like the rub-on stuff and I always liked the smell. Brings back childhood memories - of being sick.
Parsnip Totin Jack ★ Posted January 6 Share #8 Posted January 6 I don’t recall the last time I used it. I’m old-school suck-it-up-buttercup. Colds are meant to be suffered through.
Zephyr Posted January 6 Share #9 Posted January 6 The last time, I can't recall but I used to carry a small jar of it in my work bag. A small dab on the upper lip was great when someone had been dead for quite a while before being discovered 2

I actually - ad probably wrongly - just put a dab on the spot under my nose so the vapors go straight up to my nose. I really like it. I also really like the tissues infused with Vicks. Those are nice but lose their potency if opened and unused for too long. Great with a head cold.
Zephyr Posted January 6 Share #14 Posted January 6 My mother always said rub vics on the bottom of your feet and go to bed with heavy socks on and you will wake up cured. We are thinking of putting her in a home 1

Well, I like sucking on a eucalyptus cough drop... I find this whole thread interesting. I came from a large family, that never used Vick's Rub. TrentonMakes Posted January 6 Share #19 Posted January 6 I used to have a jar here - maybe used it ten years ago? I'm sure it expired and my wife threw it out. We use Vicks "plug-ins" for the kids. When i was a kid we had an old bottle of something similar called "Save The Baby". It really seemed like an antique - I don't know where it came from. It was a yellowish oily liquid and when we were congested we'd get it rubbed on our chests at bedtime. I absolutely loved the smell. And i feel like it worked too. As i recall it could also be taken orally - with a note to the effect that it was "more agreeable when taken on sugar". I'm sure the stuff tasted horrible. I don’t think Vick’s ever expires, I have a jar that is probably 30+ years old.
