Time to have a titanium rod inserted into my lower jaw

I wonder what my implant rod is made of?  I had it put in a few years back.  Then we changed insurance providers and they would not cover the rest of the procedure, even though the implant was there....

Luckily my employer is cool and covered the cost for me, so I no longer have a missing tooth.

As I recall, it was not that painful.  I think I was under general anesthetic though and my wife drove me home after.

Had the implant, but no tooth for years.  Got the tooth last year finally.  Took a while to get used to having a tooth again.

Good luck to you, Dottles.  Dental stuff is never easy, but it's worth doing in the long run.

I’ve had 2 fail including this one for a total of 5. That is, 3 dental implants and had 2 of those fail

Wow...that is not good odds. Is your body/jaw rejecting the implant?  I'm finishing up my 2nd implant.  Start to finish it is going to be over a year & a half.

so are you getting a Lynsky?

My new dentist recommended me to a periodontist who unbeknownst to me was experimenting with a new procedure and both his failed. I now go to a world renowned periodontist who has implemented one and will have fixed those other two. Needless to say I don’t go to that dentist nor that POS periodontist.

WoBG has had 4 (or 5) implants and 2 have failed.

That return trip is going to suck.

The next day will be worse.

I suppose... lots of alcohol will keep things from being infected, and you won't care about the pain.   :scratchhead:

Good luck with this.

My grandmother had no teeth from my very first recollection of her when she was in her 50's.  She lived to be 91 and, although she had false teeth, she never put them in unless she was going out in public.  She ate everything with her gums.  BTW, she was the finest and kindest human being I have ever known.

I worked with a guy that didn’t wear his dentures. I could never understand how he ate without teeth. I like apples and corn on the cob too much to try that.

This sounds expensive. Is your health insurance still good to cover failure and this??  If covered, how fantastic. You must pay enough premiums to have that level of coverage unless your employer is incredibly generous.

Dental insurance is generally weak and caps like $2000+. They pay very little on implants. An implant + crown are roughly $5000+ or higher. Insurance roughly covers like $1000. So that’s about $4k out of pocket not counting the cost to remove a failed one. So yes, it’s effing expensive.

So if you need one, don’t go cheap. Find out who the best periodontist is and pay the higher cost because otherwise you might incur a cost of 2.5 the 5k I just quoted you.

So... when does this get installed?    I'm not sure I want to know how this is done.  It doesn't sound very pleasant.  :(

You get to have a lot of soup for a while?    I don't think corn on the cob will be a good thing to do after the procedure.

Yeah I remember paying a LOT of money for WoBG's implants.  If I remember our dental insurance pays about $1200 per year max, the rest was on us.   I remember telling the doc when we were leaving... I hope you enjoy the vacation we just paid for.     He laughed...

So... you are alive and hopefully well?  Or at least not in much pain.

Thank you for asking Bikeguy. Yeah, last time I had it removed and it was a bugger.  I hurt this morning but it isn't as bad like before.  I will say I'm optimistic.  I just need to get through the next 48 hours.
