I'm pretty sure I broke a toe last night

...maybe two of them.  Getting ready for bed, I was walking past the bed and slammed my right three toes on my right foot into the bed footboard.  I've stubbed my toes many times, but this isn't that.  Much more pain.  And still hurting a lot today.  I just put tape on them and it feels a bit better.  I've always heard there is little you can do for broken toes except to tape them together.

Have you ever had a broken toe?  If so, how long did it hurt?

I'd see a doc, get x rays to see if you need surgery.

I think Ill wait a few days and see if the pain subsides.  I have a long awaited colonoscopy coming up this week.  I don't need any more drama right now.

Your not going to believe this but I broke my big toe in 2 places racing motorcycles

I was off work for a week and it hurt for a few weeks.

They gave me a sandal that wouldn't bend because the sole was a piece of wood and the doctor said that if I had to tape it to the toe next to it. If you need put your foot up and use ice.

I put my foot up and used the ice to keep my mix drink cold.

Yes. I was rough housing with the dog and kicked a piece of furniture barefooted. Two toes turned black immediately. Unfortunately I had paid for two half marathons within the next 3 weeks. Couldn't do either. I could ride my bicycle OK after a week as my bike shoes are stiff. I didn't bother to go to a doctor as unless it's an extremely bad break, not much that they can do.

I've had gout many times and it hurts like a broken toe, but usually the pain doesn't last as long.

You should  definitely tape them. Are they black and blue?  Are they still straight or grossly out of alignment?

Some coloration, but not bad and they look fairly normal.  But they hurt like hell.  I just put on shoes to go out and get the mail.  They actually felt better when I had the shoe on.  :)

Some of the vets maybe know what I’m talking about but we were off loading a rack full of M60 machine guns once and I dropped my side on my right pinky toe.  I got it checked out & the Army doc said yeah you probably broke it & taped it. I think he gave me some pain meds too.

It hurt like a mutha for a few days, was uncomfortable for a a week or so & was fine after about 2 weeks.

Probably no need for an X-ray then. Tape them, wear socks and stiff shoes

Yeah, tape & wear a tight sock. Ice, elevation and ibuprofen are your friends.

I marked your reply as the solution because that is exactly what I am doing.  Advil is one of my best friends.  :)

I'd get it checked by a doctor so even if they are simply taped, they're taped in a way where the bones will all be aimed the right way.

And????

Have they turned black and fallen off yet? Have they healed up and you're back to normal?

Our hospice aide told us about her first week on the job she was bathing a patient and their toe fell off. She was ready to quit and find a new career. The nurse told her they knew it was going to fall off, they just didn’t know when.

I feel like RR is now just leaving us all in the same situation :(

They have felt better each day.  Still some discoloration and there is some pain if I try to walk normally.  But as long as I walk in a gimpy manner where I don't bend my toes, they are okay at this point.  I still have them taped.

My main concern now is my colonoscopy this week.  :(
