Razors Edge ★ Posted January 9 Share #1 Posted January 9 Are colonoscopies really necessary vs the newer box method? Especially if the first colonoscopy was "clean"? Is there an evolving process around who, what, when, and why for colonoscopies & box methods? Prep for colonoscopies seems to have evolved a lot, and is that across the board or just for some folks? donkpow Posted January 9 Share #2 Posted January 9 Depends. Are you looking for cancer or precancerous conditions?
Road Runner Posted January 9 Share #3 Posted January 9 I was prescribed a special prep that is supposed to clean you out more than the other methods. It's called Clenpiq and it cost me $117. Two bottles to drink. I don't understand how a product that simply causes massive diarrhea should cost that much.

Kirby ★ Posted January 9 Share #5 Posted January 9 My understanding is that the colonoscopy is more accurate and comprehensive, and that the simple test can be both over and under inclusive. But it can be useful to people who otherwise wouldn't go for a colonoscopy.

My insurance wouldn’t cover it. The pharmacy suggested a cheap prep that comes in a gallon jug. I went with what the doctor prescribed and paid for it myself. I had no issues with it and watched the procedure on the monitor. It cleans like a brown tornado.

My thinking would be the first is a colonoscopy - that sort of sets the playing field for how many (if any?) polyps are there and how they look (okay, bad, cancerous, bleeding, whatever). If the colon looks "good", the box comes into play before another colonoscopy further down the line for a regroup and reassess?

Thanks, LJ.

This is why mine is being done in a hospital, just in case something goes wrong. Usually they are done at the doctor's facility, but the rule here is that anyone 70 and over has to have it done at the hospital.
maddmaxx ★ Posted January 9 Share #13 Posted January 9 If the box can remove a polyp then you already have a problem.
