Longjohn ★ Posted January 9 Share #1 Posted January 9 I know some of you get bothered by dirty bikes. Mine got a little muddy on today’s ride. 3 2
bikeman564™ Posted January 9 Share #2 Posted January 9 I don't like mud. Peanut butter is the worst IMO.
JerrySTL ★ Posted January 10 Share #3 Posted January 10 Sure. I got a high-pressure power washer. I saw mechanics using power washers on the bikes every couple of laps at the World Cyclocross championships in Louisville a few years ago. Of course, I probably doesn't hurt that much if you are getting free bikes, wheels, and chains from your team.

I use my power washer to clean my concrete driveway, and the house siding. (it has adjustable pressure settings) I like my bikes too much to kill them with the power washer. I only use the power washer on my car when it's really dirty. Like it would be after driving on @Longjohn's roads. Most of the time I just use the hose on the car and a wet towel on the bike. 1
ChrisL Posted January 10 Share #5 Posted January 10 Several years ago I did a MTB event on Camp Pendleton. It had rained all night but stopped about an hour before the event started. I had signed up for a 30K event, a couple of K’s out, two 12K loops on a set course with a 2 hour cut off on loop 1 and a few K’s back to the start finish. Well the mud was so bad & sticky that my rear wheel got completely caked in mud numerous times. For a good 3 miles (not all at once) it was a mud slog hike a bike, often times I was dragging completely stuck wheels as my bike was too heavy to carry so I just dragged it in the mud. Several times I found a deep puddle, laid my bike down drive side down & sloshed it around to free up the caked mud. Soo I got time cut, like 2.5 hours to do one 12k loop. There was no place to wash the mud off your bike so I had to wash it off at home so it was caked hard by then. It took two sessions of over an hour each time to get my bike clean. I sold that bike but kept the saddle bag. For years after, every time I zipped it open/shut a fine mist of dust would come out of the zipper….

Who was the hippie librarian who rode his bike year round, Bruce? IIRC he washed his bikes in the shower during winter. So there you go, problem solved! Bruce was a cool dude, did he cross over from the old place?

Of course, we all went with "wooder" for water, so who knows????
