Give me some ideas

You mean a topic and someone will create/present learning content/instruction?

  • I saw a TED about a recent retired guy (he must have been a professional accustomed to group instruction and presentations in working life) talk about the success of teaching folks tips on use of their mobile devices...cell phone, etc.
  • Or facilitate something about:  misinformation and major tips how to combat that. This latter could be done by  a local librarian. Some of the major local libraries do offer this because it positions the library as a public service to assist users where to start first and how to verify information. Ask for the librarian, not the library page.
  • Or cyber security...basics.
  • Effective communication with your health care professional.  Maybe a public health nurse could do this.  It's an ongoing challenge since some people don't verbalize their problems very well and expect doctor to read between the lines.  I guess I've said to some of my friends:  To get the most out of your doctor, be prepared to give good examples, etc. and be alert how ask questions when h/she provides medical advice.
  • Fall prevention... from public health nurse

Just to be clear, when you mention "programs" - are you looking for things on tv/streaming?  Or commercially available things that you can purchase?  Or ideas for talks or activities that you'd put on?

Presentations in house..usually a 1 hour talk with a 30 minute time for questions.

Thing is no budget to pay for Presentations and don't want it to be a sales pitch.

There is a popular program at my condo where high school students come and show the seniors how to use certain electronics and show tips for iphones, ipads etc.   Those sessions always fill up fast!  You could see if any of the local schools have some sort of volunteer program that would do that.

A number of high schools that I know feature robotics competitions.  If one of yours has something like that, the students could do a demonstration and answer questions about their robots.

We frequently have AARP safe driving courses conducted at the complex.  If you have enough people who drive, that might work

When my Mom was in a care facility after surgery once,  we attended a talk from a local historian on architecture in the city.  He had some interesting slides and talked about some new buildings as well as famous historic builidings.  A local historical society might have someone who could do a similar talk.

Local garden clubs might have volunteers willing to give talks about plants or famous gardens in the area.

Reach out to your local Toastmasters clubs. They could host a meeting at your location. They can explain how the meetings are run, table topics are fun. And there are usually three or four interesting speeches with evaluations provided afterwards. Table topics are where willing participants are asked to talk extemporaneously for at least one but no more than three minutes on a subject they have not prepared for. No sales pitches.

Community college is a good option.  Also, tel them to look into some local colleges.  Some colleges offer free classes (on space ability) to take classes for free.  It is not transcriptable, but they can obtain a lot of free knowledge.  It is up to the professor if they wish to grade their work.  The free class option is like an audit of a class.

This topic could be interesting and it possibly could save some person from losing a LOT of money by opening an email (or text) answering a phone call from a spammer.

You all have seen this stuff.   Your _____ (fill in the blank) account is hacked/locked/etc..  and you need to respond now and verify their account info via the link provided.

It happens to many people who believe this scam, young and old.   People trust too much... and need to learn about this before it's too late.

I just read this the other day..   Teen loses $25,000 after falling for phone scam

I tell WoBG to NEVER click on a link in an email, or text if you don't the person who sent it.  Then again... someone's account could be hacked and even that kind of email link could be phishing attempt.

I think for this group it would be great to have someone in person with 4-5 slides/handouts for message reinforcement.

In my organization at work, all employees on network 8,000 folks (then we have 4,000 more out in the field), we had to take online 1-hr. internal educational mandatory training last yr. since alot of organizations get hit.
