I know we need the rain but it’s been a rough week for us.  We had record rainfall last week followed by rain all day Saturday, a few hours of dryness and now more rain tonight into tomorrow mid day.    I have heard reports of the most recorded rain up to this point in the year since 1978.  It just keeps coming…

We should have a few dry days after this storm blows through.

I can imagine people are tired of it all.. and you haven't cycled at all or barely.  I suppose some of the ground was so hard that, some of that rain off and didn't get absorbed initially..

No my area doesn’t flood much.  The foothill areas are seeing flooding & mud slides but coastal areas are fine.

What does this mean for certain types of crops..with this incredible sudden amount of rain?  Pageturner is not here to give his orchard, garden report....I thought he lived closer to Sacremento..

I know this sucks, but all I hear about in cali is drought and water shortages.  So hopefully will help you guys?

Yeah absolutely.  It’s a good double whammy.  Our local reservoirs are filling up and the Sierra snowpack was at 200% of average like 2 storms ago.  This winter should put us in a good place for 2-3 seasons.

Yeah exactly.  The roads were a mess this morning so I went for a good walk.  By mid day it was raining again.

He does, I know many crops like almonds have already been destroyed for water conversation.  I’m not sure what if anything is being grown right now.

Edit: Citrus & Avocados are growing now but I think they aren’t really impacted by the rain.  Frost is more dangerous than record rain.

Lord. "What's a cubit"

From a very old comedy routine.

I had to get a few things from the LGS and unbeknownst to me my daughter, SIL & CJ were directly in front of me in the produce area.  I hear CJ squealing loudly and think I know that squeal and see him running to me with a big smile.  OMG that kid…

We've had a lot of wet days, Fall and Winter so far.  When I coached high school sports, I loved coaching in the Fall more than the Spring because there were so few rainy days vs a lot in the Spring.  But the Fall was very rainy this year.

Fortunately, the temps have been warmer than normal - my tomato plants survived until Nov. 21st - or this would be one of those rare Winters when Baltimore gets more snow than Juneau, Alaska.

We've got a warm forecast for the next 8 days, but half of them are rainy.  Again, it doesn't look like the wet roads are going to freeze at night.

I bet I know more about your water supply than many Los Angeleans?  I can dream.

And the snow pack melt hasn’t even started yet!

Basically the Sierra Nevadas feed L.A. its water and all the Sacramento Valley's agriculture and I suspect a lot of the Bay Area.  It's not very important.

Yeah kinda sorta.  Their water is more from the Sacramento River delta which does need Sierra Nevada snow melt but from the west side of the range.  The Owens River Valley draws run off from the Eastern Sierra Nevada.  The Owens valley is much more arid than the western side of the range.

Mammoth is one of my favorite places & where I did the Fondo/fishing trip last Sept and is in the Eastern Sierra.

Yeah, I learned all this stuff because I drove down south on 395 from Tahoe to LA with a gal I knew.  I kinda like that town of Bishop.

Oh and we get our water from both the CA Aqueduct (Western Sierra)  and through the Owens Valley.  SoCal basically gets its water from NorCal but the more we have the less we take of theirs.

My sister loves Bishop too.  When we did the Fondo my cousins stayed in a cabin in the mtns west of bishop.

Wow.  I looked at some AirBnbs outside of Bishop.  My wife has never been down the eastern side.  I like it better I think. Someday I'll take her. It's just a helluva drive from Bellingham and the Reno or Sacramento car rental thing would be quicker but more expensive. Considerably. For the same price we could go somewhere else like the big Island.

With this latest storm, it started raining about 3 PM yesterday, hasn’t let up and it’s supposed to rain until mid day today.   I know many of you deal with this all the time but I can’t emphasize how freaking rare these past few weeks have been for us.  It would be like you guys essentially not getting rain for 5 years…

Lake Mono!

I remember camping in Yosemite NP and passing Mono Lake on a side trip out to an old abandoned mining town (Bodie).  On the way back to Yosemite, we stopped at Mono Lake to check it and there was a lot of talk back then (5yrs ago?) of how much it is drying up and they are working to get it back to a certain level of water.  Maybe this helps!

Did have an awesome meal and some live music nearby past Lee Vining at the Whoa Nellie cafe.  Worth a visit if passing between Yosemite and Mono Lake area.

Is that the place off 120 & 395 by a gas station?  We may have gone to the same place, food was amazing!

My cousins want to take on the Mammoth Gran Fondo again this year.  I’m glad I did it with them but not sure I want to do it again.  But the Mammoth Tuff….

The first time was in June 2014.  I rode the Eastern Sierra double century.  Riding up Sherwin Grade Rd, into Mammoth, and around June Lakes was all in the first 100 miles, before lunch at Mono Lake.  Riding up Sagehen was after lunch.

in 2021 I tried it again, but didnt think I had to finish, so I sagged in at lunch. The first 100 miles is the most scenic anyway.

We did the short route which is basically a 15 mile downhill turn around and come back up.  Jeebus the last 5 miles kicked my ass as you are climbing and gaining elevation as you go.  The longer routes turn inland before the grade and then reconnect to do the climb back into Mammoth.  Ugh…
