Razors Edge ★ Posted January 18 Share #2 Posted January 18 I don't think @ChrisL would agree with the "distance" for this one. It's part of LA, so while it might take 2 hours to drive to the waves, it's probably less than 50 miles from the shore

GMR, Glendora Mountain Road… I don’t know the actual distance from the coast but 50 miles could be right. A good 2 + hour drive during the morning commute. Google has it at 35 miles. Traffic, though, makes that 35 seem like 50 so riding is a better way to get there. Saw a clickbait story on how ebikes are really getting even more insane out your way. They remain annoying here - more the scooters and one wheels though - but I think you folks are gonna really need to address it before it is way too late. I guess it would also depend on the beach in question but as I think of it, Glendora is a straight shot North from where I live so it’s closer than I thought. I still need to ride GMR, been saying that a looong time now. I think what makes E bikes so dangerous in my area is affluence. Wealthy parents are buying them for their kids so you have 12-15 YO kids ripping around on sidewalks & going the wrong way on roads at 20+ MPH. Someone also told me that they are no longer banned on OC MUPS so it seems the response to them is to allow more access…

It's part of LA, so while it might take 2 hours to drive to the waves, it's probably less than 50 miles from the shore In the surf culture of the 70’s & 80’s “my beach” was a thing and people who drove in from inland areas often got into fights with “locals”. In certain beach towns I was considered an “inlander” living 5 miles away from the beach… But once you found your spot and were established as a local you weren’t hassled. Riding your bike to your surf spot also helped. But it is funny that the Surfaris would have been considers outsiders in the surf community of my day. Shoot The Beach Boys were from freaking Hawthorne! Inlanders go home, my beach!!!
