Parsnip Totin Jack ★ Posted January 21 Share #2 Posted January 21 You choose what you spend. You can’t have a free market and complain about the cost. Skip the fries and soda and lunch is under $10. You chose to spend $5 on fried potatoes.

The day before, i paid ~$13 for 6 chicken tenders @ KFC. 1

My sister would sometimes get one as a treat after her PT sessions a couple years ago. She said she liked everything about it except having to say "biggie bag" to order. 1

My go-to at Wendy’s is a large chili an a medium frosty. Both easily consumed whilst driving.
groupw Posted January 22 Share #13 Posted January 22 I’ve always been underwhelmed by 5 Guys. The flavor/value ratio is not what it should be. Unless fries are included, I don’t order them.
Bikeguy Posted January 22 Share #14 Posted January 22 That's cheap... at least compared to where we ate yesterday. WoBG and I visited this place. Lodi Tap House - Utica My arteries are probably still clogged... but it was GOOD. We both had craft beer. I had a buttermilk brined chicken sandwich with cajun potato salad and our appetizer was beer battered mushrooms. WoBG had grilled fromage and cheese curds. (yeah she likes cheese) 1
Dirtyhip Posted January 22 Share #15 Posted January 22 I was out for a walk. I had two bucks in my pocket. I was walking past MCD's and I thought, I want some fries. Silly, lady. I was denied. You can't buy a small fry for $2. I walked back and was unable to experience the salty pleasure of a small fry.

But after a long bike ride, I've stopped there to get a fry & coke. Oh the simple pleasures in life

I used to stop in to grab a $1 cone but now I think they are $2 so I cut back. I like their fake ice cream.

I like 5 Guys, especially the fries since they're made the way McD's, etc. used to make them before they began using shipped-in frozen fries that are a little like cardboard compared to the old way. They run the potatoes through a peeler, cut them, then wash them twice to remove a lot of starch. Great fries! Of course, complaining in the form of going elsewhere does help bring the costs down due to the free market. Several years ago Prego and Ragu spaghetti sauces were around $3.45 in my area, even after they dropped from 32 oz to 24 oz, and they started losing market share to the $1.25 canned and store brand sauces. Prego and Ragu dropped to around $1.59 and even now are only a little over $2, about 2/3 the former price.
ChrisL Posted January 22 Share #20 Posted January 22 When my son was a teenager we hit up a 5 Guys once. I wasn’t impressed and never went back. I noticed the location is a hot chicken place now. Growing up in SoCal if we are going to do burgers it’s going to be In N Out.
