SuzieQ Posted December 29, 2014 Share #1 Posted December 29, 2014 mine is really bad lately, can't really work out why some days are worse than others - sometimes I think it's when I'm dehydrated?
Road Runner Posted December 29, 2014 Share #2 Posted December 29, 2014 I have had it for several years. Pretty much a consistent ringing, but so far I've been able to just ignore it for the most part. It does, however, interfere badly with one of my hobbies, which was listening to high fidelity music. Randomguy Posted December 29, 2014 Share #3 Posted December 29, 2014 I know that some vegetarians experience this much more than the omnivores, I think a couple of steaks would put you right as rain. Seriously, though, I don't know much about this but I hope it gets better. My left ear has been blocked for a couple of weeks now and it is pretty annoying. SuzieQ Posted December 29, 2014 Author Share #4 Posted December 29, 2014 I have had it since my mid twenties, and really am pretty used to it most of the time, but on occasions it's just louder and at the same time I feel kinda light headed. jsharr ★ Posted December 29, 2014 Share #5 Posted December 29, 2014 I have a good friend who is a professor at the University of Texas at Dallas. He is doing a study on neural plasticity and tinnnitus. I can ask him about causes and known cures. Here is more information about his clnical trials. http://www.utdallas.edu/news/2013/11/21-27531_Clinical-Trial-Brings-Positive-Results-for-Tinnitu-_story-wide.html http://www.utdallas.edu/~sxv140030/clinical_trial/

2Far ★ Posted December 29, 2014 Share #10 Posted December 29, 2014 I have had it for several years. I do have periods where it seems to be worse. I was looking at a site last week on another computer that may either offer help or be a quack, I'll see if I can find it when I get to work. az_cyclist Posted December 29, 2014 Share #12 Posted December 29, 2014 I have had it for several years. It has been worse the past 3-4 years. I would say the ringing is almost constant (at least 90% of the time), but it does seem louder at some times. Fortunately it does not keep me from doing anything, and doesnt keep me from getting sleep. There are sounds of a certain pitch that I cannot hear. A few years ago my wife was watching Dr Oz (and I was paying no attention to it....). He had a segment on tinnitus. He played a sound to demonstrate it to the audience. My wife asked me if that was what it was like. I could not hear it. I have heard there is nothing you can do.

I have also lost the ability to hear high pitch sound - this was determined by the time I was 35 or so. My kids would always hear the bats at night when we were sitting outside and I never could. In the summer when I was riding with a friend he exclaiming about the sound of the cicadas - I started laughing, because that's what I hear every day

Road Runner Posted December 29, 2014 Share #17 Posted December 29, 2014 I have heard there is nothing you can do. Especially if it is related to or caused by age-related hearing loss. At least that's what I heard back when I was young and could still hear.
tybeegb Posted December 29, 2014 Share #18 Posted December 29, 2014 I have had it for over 20 years. A nice steady tone, probably the same key as the 'Free Bird' guitar solo; years ago I put my head between two big speakers and cranked it up to 10 to get the full effect. AWAF. What's weird is that once in a great while it will all of a sudden stop, and it gets real quiet, and I think I've lost my hearing, but I hear fine. Then a few minutes later it will start back up. Road Runner Posted December 29, 2014 Share #26 Posted December 29, 2014 I always had great hearing. I first started having tinnitus at the same time that I started losing some high frequency response in my right ear, which occurred several years ago. Pokey Posted December 30, 2014 Share #27 Posted December 30, 2014 Yup...it drives me to distraction at time. High frequency loss also. Put me in a loud room with lots of people...I'm lost. I can hear your voice, but, I have no clue what you may be saying. Truly aggravating.
