Mr. Silly Posted December 29, 2014 Share #1 Posted December 29, 2014 I had just got out of county prison, doing 90 days for non-support. I tried to find me an executive position but no matter how smooth I talked they wouldn't listen to the fact that I'm a genius, they said 'we got all that we can use'. I should be sitting in an air conditioned office with a swivel chair, talking some trash to a secretary saying, "hey mama, come on over here". Instead I am stuck here scrubbing he fender with a rag and walking home in soggy old shoes. A man of my abilities should be smoking a big cigar. Until I get myself straight, I guess I'll just have to wait in my rubber suit rubbing his car. All I can do is shake my head and you might not believe that it true that working at the end of Niagara Falls is an undiscovered Howard Hughes. Don't expect to see me with a double martini in the high brow society news because I've got the Saturday depressing, low down, mind messing, working at the car wash blues. The End. team scooter Posted December 29, 2014 Share #3 Posted December 29, 2014 You might not ever get rich, but let me tell you its better than digging a ditch. Theres no telling who you might meet. A movie star or maybe even an Indian Chief.
Mr. Silly Posted December 29, 2014 Author Share #4 Posted December 29, 2014 Some of the work gets kinda hard and this ain't no place to be if you planned on being a star. But let me tell you it's always cool and the boss don't mind sometimes if you act the fool.
Dirtyhip Posted December 29, 2014 Share #5 Posted December 29, 2014 I should be sitting in an air conditioned office with a swivel chair, talking some trash to a secretary saying, "hey mama, come on over here". Dangerous ground here...use caution in being rude to the secretary. She can make or break you by choice.
team scooter Posted December 29, 2014 Share #6 Posted December 29, 2014 We've been running away from something we both know. We've long run out of things to say and I think I'd better go. So don't be getting excited when you hear that slamming door..... Again, showing my age.....
JerrySTL ★ Posted December 29, 2014 Share #7 Posted December 29, 2014 Love that song. My first job was working at a car wash. I certainly had the Carwash Blues! Made the minimum wage of 95¢ an hour at age 14 in 1967. It taught me that I really, really wanted to finish high school and get something better than a lousy minimum wage job. Longjohn ★ Posted December 29, 2014 Share #10 Posted December 29, 2014 I worked in a car wash in 1966 just before Easter. It was a hand wash car wash with the cars pulled through on a chain. You had to keep up with the speed of the chain. I wondered why they were paying $2.00 an hour to work at a car wash but by the end of a ten hour day with only one ten minute break I figured it out. I suppose if they had a slow day it might have been ok.
az_cyclist Posted December 29, 2014 Share #11 Posted December 29, 2014 Never worked at a car wash, but baled a lot of hay when I was in my teens. Either $.01 or $.02 a bale, or $1 an hour, depended on the farmer

JerrySTL ★ Posted December 29, 2014 Share #13 Posted December 29, 2014 I used to work at a movie house. I worked the popcorn counter. I worked at a drive-in theater. Sold popcorn, candy, pizza, drinks, and tickets. Also cleaned up the lot during the day and patrolled it for people sneaking in at night. Even ran the projector a few times. Not a bad job for a 17 YO kid considering they were showing R and X-rated movies!
