My daughter did that in Australia for 6 months.  She was a drover during a severe drought where they would just move the cows constantly towards some water source or potential food source.

She said it was hard work but any time they went through the towns, the townsfolk would come out to feed the drovers and bring them treats or coffee

Frontend loaders probably made quick work of the job, just like after a parade. Cars probably picked up the rest.:whistle:

You don't want to follow too closely behind a semi loaded with cattle going up an off ramp on the interstate.
