I listened to this on the way to work today. Before the song begins, Nils tells the story about the original recording. He and his producer had just finished a very good take and were listening to the recording. They were thinking about what to add to the tracks, synthesizer or horns or something, when a guest in the studio said, “so you’re done then”. And they were like, “What?”. “You’re done. That was beautiful, you’re not going to fuck it up by adding shit are you?” Normally, Nils said, they’d blow off that sort of rubbish, but this was Ringo Starr. They agreed they were done.
