goldendesign Posted January 7, 2015 Share #1 Posted January 7, 2015 Like so stupid even stupid is stupit. This pertains to my steel campus bike. I would really benefit from having the bike rideable for class tomorrow since it's the long day with lots of class changes. Is there anyway I can make her a single speed by removing the derailleur and just having the chain and freewheel like a single speed?
UglyBob Posted January 7, 2015 Share #2 Posted January 7, 2015 Have you got a quick link or some other equivalent? You can remove the derailleur, pick a comfortable gear, wrap the chain around and shorten it up. Keep the rest of the chain to put back on with another quick link when to go back to gears. TrentonMakes Posted January 7, 2015 Share #3 Posted January 7, 2015 I can't tell from the photos - does that bike have horizontal dropouts? Those make it a lot easier getting the chain tension right if you're eliminating the derailleur.

Is there anyway I can make her a single speed by removing the derailleur and just having the chain and freewheel like a single speed? I did something like this with a geriatric mountain bike a few years back. It was a good solution for what I wanted.
