A co-worker saw this on my desk:

Co-Worker1: Say, that looks interesting.  Is that about power plants?

TK: Yes, it's about how to build small water power plants.

CW1:  How's the book so far?

TK:  I just got it, but it's not as detailed as the other one I have.

Co-Worker2:  You have another book about hydropower?

TK: Yea, that one has equations for calculating things like tail races, how much flow and height you need for so much power, how to set up footings and all that.

CW2: You actually read stuff like that?

TK:  Yeah...

CW2: You read that for fun, like, in your spare time?

TK: Sure!

CW1 and CW2: <puzzled looks at each other>

That is some intense reading, Mr. Smarty Pants.

I'm currently reading this : http://store.lcmm.org/life-on-a-canal-boat-bartley-p/3062.htm

Day after day of mundane diary entries, yet somehow, it adds up to a compelling picture.

Here's some of the later entries: http://www.lcmm.org/images/img_education/img_educator_resources/bartley_journal/bartley_pg_901-1200.pdf

For life on a barge, I enjoyed Lila, by Robert Pirsing, author of Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance.
