I don't like when you say things that way

Yeah, that might be one.

 

People (many people) in NYC will say "on line" instead of "in line" (as in "Next in line").  This pisses me off, as it sounds pretentious and is a total tool affectation.  I ALWAYS correct them, and tell them that I am not, in fact, standing on a line, nor am I on the internet.  I refrain from calling them pretentious twits or twats, though, but only just.

My mom used to always tell me that it's not what you say, it's how you say it.

Too true. My BIL works in the White House. He says you have to learn how to step on people's toes without disturbing the shine on their shoes. My father's way of putting it was "Tell them to go to Hell, but make them look forward to the trip."
