Microsoft to Give Away Windows 10 in Move to Woo Software Developers Microsoft said people using the two earlier versions of its operating system, Windows 7 and Windows 8.1, would be able to update their computers to Windows 10 free for the first year after the new software is introduced. Cool, I would upgrade for free, assuming it's not crap like Vista was. I think 7 was solid, 8 felt like the Vista debacle, hopefully 10 will be like 7.
