Square Wheels Posted January 27, 2015 Share #4 Posted January 27, 2015 No tales of woe, so far my house is toasty warm, we haven't lost power. We're still not allowed to drive, but I am working at home today. I would be most grateful if my greenhouse does not collapse. That would make me sad. Square Wheels Posted January 27, 2015 Share #7 Posted January 27, 2015 How much have you gotten? No idea, why would I go out? I stepped out a few hours ago. My driveway had anywhere from 0 (bare pavement) to a couple of feet. The winds are brutal. I feel bad for the people plowing.

I'm sure your greenhouse was constructed to handle quite a bit of snow load since you live in the northeast. Also, dry snow versus wet snow. Dry snow doesn't weigh as much. All the reports I have been hearing are that it is a dry snow.

Road Runner Posted January 27, 2015 Author Share #17 Posted January 27, 2015 Why is your greenhouse built below ground level?
jsharr ★ Posted January 27, 2015 Share #18 Posted January 27, 2015 Why is your greenhouse built below ground level? Soil is an excellent insulator. Building it below ground would help make it easier to heat in cold weather.
Square Wheels Posted January 27, 2015 Share #19 Posted January 27, 2015 Why is your greenhouse built below ground level? It's not, that's about 6 feet of snow. Here's a pic from inside the garage, no snow. Here's the other site, this is about 2.5 feet deep. Driveway before: Driveway after. Darn plow guy didn't show up. It's deceiving, but that pile is about 7 feet high. That was not fun.
smudge ★ Posted January 27, 2015 Share #20 Posted January 27, 2015 I'll ask you the same question I asked The KrazyOne a couple weeks ago - Who shovels a half inch of snow? Responsible homeowners do. You want clear sidewalks and driveways, you clean 'em off. damned trolls ....

You had my respect and admiration when I thought you did all of that shoveling. Now you say your wife did half of it? Did you fix her a sandwich when she got done?

Thaddeus Kosciuszko Posted January 28, 2015 Share #28 Posted January 28, 2015 Just like the weatherman said we would, we got pounded with snow. About 6 inches of really light, really fluffy snow. I took the dogs out into the driveway. They wagged their tails and the breeze cleared out all the snow.

Longjohn ★ Posted January 28, 2015 Share #35 Posted January 28, 2015 I lot of sitzmarks along the road tonight where vehicles have not been able to tell where the edge of the road is and have driven off into the snow filled ditch. They were all pulled out by the time I came by at midnight.
