Dirtyhip Posted February 22, 2015 Share #1 Posted February 22, 2015 I can't open my Adams jar of broth. <head in hands> The damn thing seems fused on. DAMN THESE HOOKS!!!! I feel like a complete failure as a woman. No hot dinner on the table, when my husband gets home.

Dirtyhip Posted February 22, 2015 Author Share #3 Posted February 22, 2015 Well, I decided to use my resources that were available to me. I walked next door. My neighbor's wife opened it for me. In my defense, she struggled too.

Thaddeus Kosciuszko Posted February 22, 2015 Share #5 Posted February 22, 2015 I feel like a complete failure as a woman. No hot dinner on the table, when my husband gets home. I would think if K arrived home and you 'plated his dinner' as you have on previous occasions he certainly wouldn't see you as a complete failure as a woman. Dirtyhip Posted February 22, 2015 Author Share #6 Posted February 22, 2015 I am so weak. <shaking head> That was embarrassing. However, I don't think she rode 44 miles and climbed 3700 ft today.
a bunch of numbers Posted February 22, 2015 Share #7 Posted February 22, 2015 Sometimes if you grip the lid too tight, you're causing more problems. A lighter grip on the lid is all that's needed.
Wilbur ★ Posted February 22, 2015 Share #8 Posted February 22, 2015 http://www.artofmanliness.com/2008/01/19/how-to-open-a-stuck-jar-lid/ If it is a twist lid, keep a thick rubber band to put around the lid. That improves your grip. Break the seal by hold the jar upside down in one hand and give it a good hit with the palm of your other hand.
Thaddeus Kosciuszko Posted February 22, 2015 Share #9 Posted February 22, 2015 Let's see... You rode 44 miles today and feel less than accomplished because you couldn't open a jar... If I may, I'd like to suggest you take a moment to reflect and give yourself more credit. Plenty of people can open jars. Far fewer can ride 44 miles. petitepedal ★ Posted February 22, 2015 Share #11 Posted February 22, 2015 You can also heat the top...sometimes that helps...
Dirtyhip Posted February 22, 2015 Author Share #12 Posted February 22, 2015 No chickens in the coop to make your own chicken broth? I made the broth from scratch...from rotisserie chicken bones that I reserve in the freezer.
Longjohn ★ Posted February 22, 2015 Share #13 Posted February 22, 2015 I bought a used set of cherry kitchen cabinets from a friend that was remodeling his kitchen. There is a gizzmo mounted on the underside of the wall cabinets that will remove all stuck lids. It works really well.

If I may, I'd like to suggest you take a moment to reflect and give yourself more credit. Plenty of people can open jars. Far fewer can ride 44 miles. Thanks, Thad. I get mad at myself pretty easily. I have these things in my mind that I want to accomplish for the day. When I fail at them, I feel badly. The idea of him coming home to no food bothers me. It's the least I can do after he works a 12 hour shift.

F_in Ray Of Sunshine Posted February 22, 2015 Share #21 Posted February 22, 2015 you 'plated his dinner' as you have on previous occasions he certainly wouldn't see you as a complete failure as a woman.I would view that as a failure as a cook, though - any food that was plated would be inedible - even if it were gold plated. I'm sure it would look nice but some metals would even be toxic.
