Destination Posted February 25, 2015 Share #6 Posted February 25, 2015 Quality of sleep is just as important as quantity. I used to work a 3 a.m. to 11 a.m. shift. I didn't sleep well on that shift and within six months, I couldn't handle it any longer.

smudge ★ Posted February 25, 2015 Share #9 Posted February 25, 2015 For me, it's my cat who wakes me up. Sometimes around 3:30, sometimes 4:45, 5:30 on a good day. Today she decided to let mom sleep until 6:15; she never came into the room!! Nice!! Of course then I got worried, "Where is she?" She was in the living room sleeping on my sweatshirt. Last night, I got woke up at 11:00 and 3:00 by my wife and a dog. It's 8:00 and I'm ready for a nap!
SuzieQ Posted February 25, 2015 Share #12 Posted February 25, 2015 I used to be an amazing sleeper - I could fall asleep and wake up in the same position, but for about the last 5 or 6 years I wake up at least three or four times a night. Usually 2.30, 3.30, 4.30 and then 5 or 6. Sometimes I'm lucky and will only wake up twice. A lot of the time I'm wide awake at 4:30 and ready to get out of bed, but the times that I do it's tough to make it through the day. What's interrupting your sleep Sue? I would suggest that you use a catheter before going to bed. This would at least give you an uninterrupted night's sleep and it's not too difficult to master with a bit of instruction. Dirtyhip Posted February 25, 2015 Share #37 Posted February 25, 2015 I get to sleep very easily on most night. However, I almost always have to wake up to pee at about 2 A.M. It usually doesn't wake me up too much. I stagger to the bath in a sleeplike coma. Last night I turned off the lights at 8:30 and slept till 6:25. Sleep is wonderful. On days that I do super hard efforts on the bike, I sleep restlessly. If I do a 3+ hour workout on the bike, My body just throws off tons of heat and I just don't sleep really well. It doesn't matter what I eat either. I have eaten a meal with plenty of protein and still have this issue. The second night after a hard effort,I sleep like the dead. I'm not sure what you mean by "too extreme"....have you some experience of this? I'm talking about what is termed "Intermittent catheterisation" which is a procedure taking only a few minutes. Using this does not mean that you stop practising the usual means of emptying the bladder though it's clear that in this case it's not working. Believe me...peeing on the quarter hour....that's extreme, and means he is operating with a full bladder if doing so means he is failing to empty it. That said, I would have thought that his Doctor would have recommended this as if urine is being retained this can lead to back-pressure on the kidneys. I wish it were that simple. The bladder seems to be irritated. I am almost never full and I don't retain anything.
