Square Wheels Posted March 1, 2015 Share #9 Posted March 1, 2015 Why was the update necessary, btw? At some point the version we were on would be sunset, likely far off, but still at some point. This version has many new features that we can use. YouTube (while still a little buggy() is significantly improved. For instance, you can now select the part of the video where you want it to start. I'm afraid that this is how things usually work, in that most people through apathy or resistance to change, refuse to participate and then are resentful when it happens. That said, this doesn't mean that they don't appreciate the amount of work entailed or the selfless motivation of the person doing the work.Well done and thank you.George.

That said, this doesn't mean that they don't appreciate the amount of work entailed or the selfless motivation of the person doing the work.Well done and thank you.George. Quit sucking up, you are still going to get banned when you post porn!I do think it is true that most people thought the software update would be mostly a behind-the-scenes type, not wholesale to the user interface, hence the apathy preceding it. I will say that my biggest issues right now are the spacing of things on the 17" monitor, and also the placement of the items in SW's line item 8. One post fills the page up, and changing text size, while getting more posts in the field of view, makes the font too tiny to read at all. Is anyone else experiencing this, or is it just me? I would also agree with AWWC's sentiment that losing RR (or any one member) because of the update is too many. We should give it a chance now that labor has been undertaken, and I know SW will make great efforts to get things right (given the constraints of the software), although I know that appealing to everyone is a battle that can't ever be fully won. So hypothetically, SW, if after a fair attempt is made by all to acclimate to things after you make the changes you can, can you roll back the upgrade if turmoil and insurrection threaten death to all we hold dear? Again, I am advocating getting the issues ironed out and everyone giving things a fair chance first, but leaving the poison pill within reach if people are pissy once all is done and the acclimating period over. What do you think? Edited March 1, 2015 by Randomguy™

Even if it were, progress needs to march forward. I didn't like WIndows 7 at first, but I'm not demanding Microsoft continue to support WIndows 3.1.As I have mentioned (many times) I will do everything possible to make sure being here is a positive experience. The software has many new features now, it's the theme people are unhappy with. Does the whole layout change (can it change?) or by "theme", do you mean just colors and such? Btw, it isn't Windows 7 from 3.1 we are worried about, it is Windows 8 from 7. Rodale did march a series of Windows 8 changes on us, all the while telling us we would like it better each time, and we never did. We have been conditioned to hate software change. I am sorry to hear we burned software bridges. Once we get things ironed out so we are mostly kind of gruntled, can we never change software again, or change only at the point of a sword at the very last minute? Just stepping back and taking an objective look at this, I think the + Quote thing is probably mainly responsible for spacing things out. I think one of my favourite forum software layouts was the Jive Software - it was very tabular - I remember being able to see something like 50 topics per page because it was just one line per topic. But I 'spose the mobile age is here so if this makes it better for that, maybe it isn't so bad.
