smudge ★ Posted September 22, 2013 Share #1 Posted September 22, 2013 What do you use to wash your cycling clothes? I've been using Pro Wash. Found it at Menards of all places. It seems like it's a good thing. Is Woolite a bad thing for cycling clothes? Not stressin' out about this. Just wondering what others use.
Road Runner Posted September 22, 2013 Share #2 Posted September 22, 2013 I just use regular laundry detergent. I wash them by hand and drip dry, of course.
Square Wheels Posted September 22, 2013 Share #3 Posted September 22, 2013 SportSuds. Seems to work pretty good. We also add unscented color bleach. Remember NOT to use fabric softener as that will clog the pores of the lycra.
Ralphie ★ Posted September 22, 2013 Share #4 Posted September 22, 2013 We use All Free for all washing - seems to work well. i use no fabric softener at all to avoid any problems with allergies or irritation.
smudge ★ Posted September 22, 2013 Author Share #5 Posted September 22, 2013 Hmm, sounds like I'm in the right ballpark. I generally hand wash unless I have a bunch of stuff. Sometimes if things seem to be getting a bit funky I'll add a little bleach to kill the smelly germs. And I've been using Pro Wash, so I guess that's ok too. Just no fabric softener. Got it! Thanks. Longjohn ★ Posted September 22, 2013 Share #6 Posted September 22, 2013 I use regular laundry detergent and a downy ball with fabric softener in the washer on regular cycle and throw them in the drier to dry them. I haven't noticed any problems with any of my bike clothes. Some of them are ten years old.
Airehead Posted September 22, 2013 Share #7 Posted September 22, 2013 We also use All Free on ours. Throw them in the washer and then hang to dry. Excellent results.
JerrySTL ★ Posted September 23, 2013 Share #8 Posted September 23, 2013 I use Tide Free for most of my clothing. If I'm doing just technical clothing, I use Penguin Wash. However I'll have to keep an eye out for Pro Wash. http://www.performancebike.com/bikes/Product_10052_10551_1024167_-1___000000 I machine wash technical clothing on the gentle cycle in cold water. Do NOT use fabric softener or dryer sheets as they clog up the technical materials so that they don't wick away sweat as well. I hang dry all my clothing with one exception: Sometimes I'll put shorts in the dryer on low. Either PI or Specialized recommends it to help the chamois work better. Banana!! Posted September 24, 2013 Share #9 Posted September 24, 2013 I take mine down to the river and beat them on a rock. Same way I wash my hair.
Square Wheels Posted September 24, 2013 Share #10 Posted September 24, 2013 I take mine down to the river and beat them on a rock. Same way I wash my hair. tsk tsk, sarcasm not allowed in the "real" cycling sections.
torch511 Posted September 24, 2013 Share #11 Posted September 24, 2013 I use Arm & Hammer free. I find that the front-loading washers are not as destructive to cycling clothing as the top loaders.
JerrySTL ★ Posted September 24, 2013 Share #12 Posted September 24, 2013 I take mine down to the river and beat them on a rock. Same way I wash my hair. Doesn't that cause headaches and concussions?
Reverend_Maynard Posted September 24, 2013 Share #13 Posted September 24, 2013 I use All Free mostly. I've asked that fabric softener not be used, but I'm not sure that happens.
jsharr ★ Posted September 24, 2013 Share #14 Posted September 24, 2013 Ask my wife. When I was single, or when I do wash my own stuff, I used Woolite and the machine on gentle cycle. My wife washes my stuff with her undergarments. I think this makes them happy.
Indy Posted September 25, 2013 Share #15 Posted September 25, 2013 Every thing just gets thrown in the washer with everything else, do hang them up and air dry.
Olas Nah Posted September 26, 2013 Share #16 Posted September 26, 2013 I wash them with unscented/free&clear detergent, along with all my other clothes.
Louielouie-FP3 Posted October 3, 2013 Share #17 Posted October 3, 2013 I usually go right to the shower afer I ride so the kit goes to the shower with me. I hand wash with regular soap then dry on the dryer for about an hour if it's raining/dark or hang dry them if it's sunny. No issues with the clothes at all. Nate Posted October 8, 2013 Share #18 Posted October 8, 2013 I use laundry detergent, the cheap kind, and throw them in the dryer on low. Wash gloves and everything after every ride. my stuff lasts for several seasons and I ride 3000 - 5000 miles a year. If regular laundry soap and putting stuff in the dryer hurt anything, I'd tell you, but after more than 30 years on the road, I can say...just wash that sweaty, stinking crap and throw it in the dryer
