Pinning topics DOES ruin it for everyone, period.  Everybody and their brother will have a "cause" that they think deserves pinning and they will dominate the board or they will be pissed if their "cause" isn't pinned.

yeah but

Now it's a democracy and not just me pinning crap like a stupid hill climb.  Even if I do, it takes very little to vote me down.

Since it's a democracy we can vote on how many votes pinning / unpinning requires.

Actually, I do like that we can squash a pinned topic like a bug if we so desire.  Can we set a time limit on a pinned topic, too?

We'll revisit this when there are a half-dozen lame-ass pinned topics jamming the top of the board.  Who is going to vote down a, "support my 5K run for the Nuns of Nantucket" thread?

We can't help it because you are reduced to mowing your yard twice a month with your bad back. Should have thought about that before you went around bicycling around town like Mary Poppins

"Oh, look at me, I am pinnned", exclaimed the post, arrogantly.  "I am soooooo important that everyone must look at me continually.  Look at me.  LOOK at ME!" it cried out, "LOOK at ME!".

Meanwhile, others were clamoring for the post's demise, angered that they were constantly confronted with something that should stand on its own, without outside help and interference. "Let it sink or fly of its own accord", they cried, "All posts begin equally", they sensibly stated.  "We will shirley all get painful rectal itch from that foppish, vain post, whatever shall we do?", they continued, as they know they all felt diminished by the pinned topic's mere presence.

I felt as the heavens moved my fingers over the keyboard as I wrote that, much like the devil wrote "Stairway to Heaven".

Value judgements are tough.  This is a good cause, but one among many.

This.  I donate to a number of charities on a regular basis, but I see no reason to post about it here or ask others to do likewise.  I'm sure we all do good deeds on occasion.  This seems to be a very kind and generous group.

Another value judgement.  I feel victimized by people forcing their values on me.  This should be a safe place.  I don't feel safe here.

Edit:  I'm just fucking around.

I actually do hate the bell ringers.  They are the worst cause of all, owing to the noise pollution.

I realize that this also is a value and annoyance judgement.
