Steep grades in photos

A few weeks ago I posted a photo of a steep grade I'd ridden, and someone commented how hard it is to take a photo that really makes a climb look as steep as it is.

I noticed that this photo I took the weekend before last managed it.  We were just walking; I didn't ride this - but I'd love to ride up there.  This was in Jim Thorpe, PA.  According to Google this is about 20% (but for less than 1/10 of a mile).  Assuming they're built level, it seems getting a structure in the photo is effective.

Let's see some other examples.

I think I could ride this, for the couple hundred feet it's that steep.

This town is shoehorned into a gorge with pretty steep walls.  There's an old "gravity railroad" rail trail heading up out of town to the west that averages 15% for 6/10 mile.  That'd be tough.
