jsharr ★ Posted June 29, 2015 Share #1 Posted June 29, 2015 Torrential rains and flash flooding hit Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico on Saturday night. Four boys were swept away when a flash flood hit their campsite. Three were immediately rescued but one was not and lost his life. They were on a 12 day trek at Philmont. A trip to Philmont is often the pinnacle to a Scouts career and takes months of training and preperation. You and your crew do a multi day unsupported trek through remote terrain.I cannot imagine what the other scouts in the unit, it's adult leaders, parents and the staff at the camp are going through right now, but they could use any prayers, vibes, thoughts that you can offer.http://www.philmontscoutranch.org/~/link.aspx?_id=829043D2C6F54040B330C6D8D1FE4C6B&_z=z
TrentonMakes Posted June 29, 2015 Share #2 Posted June 29, 2015 wow, that's terrible. We will include this in our family's prayers. My wife just mentioned that her sister's family is saving up to send their 14-yo son to Philmont.

Rattlecan ★ Posted June 30, 2015 Share #7 Posted June 30, 2015 So sad to read this. My eldest grandson is going on a wilderness camping excursion with his scout troop in a couple of weeks. We are excited for him as it will be a great growth experience, and yet, there is always danger.
