Popular Post LoneWolf Posted July 1, 2015 Popular Post Share #1 Posted July 1, 2015 We live ten to fifteen minutes from a single-A ballpark. We like to go every now and then, and we won a four-pack of tickets for tonight, so we took my parents. Dime-a-dog night too, which I didn't realize, making it easy to stuff oneself for a pittance. These outings are wonderful. However, as I see my father, seventy-three, with arthritis that seems to have accelerated exponentially in several years, tired from chemo from a thankfully-discovered-early-but-not-out-of-the-woods-yet cancer, and I think of how some things in life are way too finite. How exasperation with someone's habits coexists and contrasts with the love you have for someone, and balancing what sometimes seems to be a deplorable lack of emotion with a poignant sadness or wistfulness while trying to work within the bounds of a lifelong relationship that won't be long enough. These are the days. Make of them what you can, boys and girls.
AirwickWithCheese Posted July 1, 2015 Share #2 Posted July 1, 2015 Someday you'll remember that 10 cent hotdog as the best tasting of your life. I am now a Whitecaps fan.
Pokey Posted July 1, 2015 Share #3 Posted July 1, 2015 Minor league sports are the best (IMHO) to attend. Inexpensive and you get to see the athletes' play with heart trying to make the "show". Best times. And Cheesedoodle is so correct, these type of evenings will stay with you for a long long time.
maddmaxx ★ Posted July 1, 2015 Share #4 Posted July 1, 2015 (edited) Minor league sports are cool and affordable. I've turned my back on most of the "majors". They've simply priced themselves out of my market. On the other hand, after the local politics involved in turning the New Britain Rock Cats into the Hartford "Yard Goats" (???????) I don't think I'm going to bother with them anymore.Back when my son was going to school in Rochester I was very impressed with how well a stadium and it's sports teams can be integrated into the local entertainment scene. Kzoo Posted July 1, 2015 Share #7 Posted July 1, 2015 LW, I took my parents to a WhiteCaps game many years ago. It was a great experience for all. They wanted to sit in the grass so they brought they chairs and we grabbed a great spot down the right field line. I won't do into details but it was the greatest finish to a ball game I've ever seen and at 59 yo I've played and seen a lot of games. WhiteCaps at bat, 2 outs, down by 3, bases loaded, grounder to 1st and the WhiteCaps won. That is a great environment to see a game.
Rumble_Strip ★ Posted July 2, 2015 Share #8 Posted July 2, 2015 We live about a half hour from the Whitecaps ballpark. We go at least once a year. Every year we get four free tickets that are right behind the dugout on the third base line. We take either the nephews or the nieces. For some reason, every time we go, the Whitecaps seem to win. There's all sorts of bonus nights. Thrifty Thursdays are dollar hot dogs and two dollar beers. I think Monday is All Faiths night, bring a church bulletin and get discounted tickets. And they have three Dime-a-Dog nights per season.
